How can I use Dashboards with a BEx query to connect to a BW multiprovider? I can use the same query and connection with Crystal Reports for Enterprise, Analysis for Excel and Webi...just not in Dashboards.
My setup:
Dashboards SP4 Patch2
BOE 4.0 SP4 Patch2
BW NetWeaver 7.3 SP6 (ABAP stack only No Java stack)
No portal used...will be using BI Launch Pad
I hear Java stack is a requirement for earlier versions of BOE. Is it still for 4.0? Can QAAWS or RESTful web service be used?
Here is what I currently try to do - Dashboards launched from my desktop.
Click on new.
Click on Query Browser and then Add Query.
Log On to BusinessObjects Enterprise. After password and clicking OK above...I get the following error:
Clicking on OK gets me past it and the Add Query window pops up. I choose BEx and next .
I choose my connection:
I choose my query:
I select my result objects, click refresh and get data from our BW system:
Clicking next gives me preview query result, also:
Clicking next gives you more options:
Clicking OK gives the following error...again:
Clicking OK on the above error takes me back to the Dashboards work canvas...empty....with no more error...?

Kelly ,
There are two ways of connection Bex query to dashboard .
1) using query browser - you need to make an OLAP connection to use it . ( The java stack dependency is removed in this connection )
I guess its working for you. The reason for the above error is you might forgot to install RESTFUL services when you upgrade your systems to latest service pack level .
GO to CMC -->MANAGE --> APPLICATIONS check whether if you have RESTFUL application installed or not
if you don't have it , install it because Dashboard 4.0 ( Fp3) uses Restful services .
2) The second way to connect to bex is using SAP NETWEAVER CONNECTION . and the error 2302 is a display error . You need to have java stack installed on it to make this work . This connection uses bex web .
I guess you don't have java stack .. you need to install java stack to make this connection and the single sign on has to be enabled between JAVA and ABAP stack
with this connection you can publish the designed dashboard to BW only ( you can't publish to launchpad ) . The dashboard object is like a TLOGO object in BW and you transport these dashboard objects using regular transports in BW .
note : if you are using query browser you can publish you dashboard to launch pad and you can integrate it in share point - IOMS .
I hope this helps and let me know if you have any questions ..
Happy dashboarding ..say hello to the team

Hey Pramod - Hope all is well. The team says "Hi" back!
I was able to figure this out later Friday. I did not think that it was working initially, because I couldn't get data into the spreadsheet. But then figured out that it does not populate the spreadsheet during development time.
It is working without RESTful web service, but I do get the error window and can click OK through it. You say that enabling RESTful web services will take care of this...I will try.
RESTful web service does not install when you upgrade...you don't even get the option when upgrading. You have to go back and modify after upgrade. Lesson learned while modifying - when you see the window below...leave the check marks checked and add check marks to that which you want to install. Unchecking means to uninstall!!
Kind regards,
Kelly
