Maybe this could be helpful - this solution fixed that error for us:
Reason and Prerequisites
Installation of SAP GUI 7.40 Patch 5 will uninstall existing installation of controls for SAPscript Legacy Text Editor.
Solution
The Installer for SAPscript Legacy Text Editor can be downloaded from SAP Support Portal and insatalled additionaly on SAP Windows GUI 7.40
Patch 5 Compilation 2 and higher.
You can download 'SAPSCRIPT LEGACY TEXT EDITOR' from SAP Software Download Center:
-> Support Packages and Patches
\_-> Browse Download Catalog
\_-> SAP Frontend Components
\_-> SAPSCRIPT LEGACY TEXT EDITOR
\_-> SAPSCRIPT LEGACY TEXT EDITOR (Support Packages and Patches)
\_-> Win32

Hi
Please note that attempting to install the sapscript legacy text editor as per the above failed for me under windows 10 (no problems under windows 7).
For now under win10 I would recommend an older sapgui as a temporary workaround until SAP fix their tool.
Cheers,
Jonathan
If SAP GUI 740 patch 5 takes out the legacy editor by design. What are we supposed to use to EDIT smartforms without manually reinstalling the legacy editor as described ?
SAP GUI 740 patch 7 does not fix this
You still have to follow 2221815 - SAPscript Legacy Text Editor controls are not packed in SAP Windows GUI Installation to install the 'SAPSCRIPT LEGACY TEXT EDITOR' - just download it and run the installation...
I had the same experience.
You can also force the use of MS Word as the editor as intended by the GUI. See Note 742662 about using RSCPINST report or the one that worked for me is from Note 1907484 that specifies report RSCPSETEDITOR.
Hi,
there is a simple workaround for this error:
1. Open a program with transaction SE80 or SE38.
2. Menu Utilities => Settings => Tab SAPscript
3. Uncheck Graphical PC Editor.
4. Save your settings with ENTER button.
You don't have to install the 'SAPSCRIPT LEGACY TEXT EDITOR'.

Very good solution, appreciate
Both solutions are working fine for me.
