Connection to Azure SQL Database (DaaS)

Hello Data Service Experts,

we want to use the Azure cloud service "Azure SQL Database" as a Source / Target DB for our on prem SAP BODS running on Linux (SLES12). We have checked the SAP PAM and have some questions that we can not clarify ourselves and hope that someone already has such setup or perhaps has an answer for our questions.

As you can see in the PAM "Azure SQL Database" is supportet by sap and you have to use MS SQL Server Client 2014 on Windows to connect to the cloud service. However since our bods is running on linux we can not use this client. As described in the Azure documentation (https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sql/connect/odbc/microsoft-odbc-driver-for-sql-server?view=azuresqldb-current) you can install odbc driver on linux and use this to connect to "Azure SQL Database".

So our questions are: is it possible to use the DataDirect odbc functionality of bods to connect to "Azure SQL Database"?

Or is it possible to use the odbc driver from microsoft? Has anyone use this driver already?

And how about sap support when we use other driver as pointed in the PAM?

Thanks a lot

Regards

Alexej
