client software using Redwood

Hi,

I am setting up cps 8.0 M33 on my solution Manager I am going to connect to 5 satellite systems.

Do i have to install any client software on any of these satellite systems?

Do i just have to deploy the sca file on the central server(solution manager) and then do the configuration.

how are platform agents created?

can i update the client software from the Scheduler?

Please help me on this

hey Joyce,

• If you are connecting to an SAP system, you do not have to install any client software, as the Redwood connects through RFC to the SAP systems.
• If you are trying to connect to a system and schedule *.bat or *.sh scripts at operating system level, then you have to install the platform agents in order for the redwood system to communicate.

• Yes, you can install the redwood software by deploying the sca file on your Java stack.
• Platform agents are provided along with your redwood software, which can be downloaded from configuration-->softwares. Then install the agents in respective operating systems.

• Yes. During installation of platform agents, there is an option to allow automatic updating of the platform agents from the redwood  system.

What if the automatic update of platform agents is not set. How do i update it then.

Incase i do a upgrade of my CPS , i have to do the following steps right?

1. put queue on hold, stop process servers. shutdown sap app server

2. upgrade cps using SUM or JSPM.

3. start APP server, process server and queue.

in the above case if automatic update is not set in platform agents how do i update it.

Exactly. Just one correction, recent versions of NW Java doesn't accept upgrade option using JSPM, it is mandatory to use SUM.

In case, you have not set the option for auto update, please follow the option from admin guide below for windows server platform

To enable auto-update create the ${InstallDir}\etc\startup\${instance}\autoupdate directory
and change the service so it runs as Local System by starting the Microsoft Windows Service Manager
(services.msc) and modifying the Log On dialog of the Scheduler Platform Agent service.

and Unix below:

If the network processor is started by the platform agent, the agent is capable of being [updated automatically|
Cronacle8DocAgentAutoUpdate]. The administrator can control whether auto-update should be performed
by creating or removing the ${InstallDir}/etc/startup/${instance}/autoupdate directory

one more question? i want to upgrade a cps 702 to cps 8.0 using SUM along with other SP upgrade. Will it work or should i do CPS seperately. To upgrade to M33 i just need to use the ETPRJSCHEDULER M33 SCA file right?

You don't  have to do CPS separately, you can do it all in one go.

I would suggest generating an XML through maintenance optimizer in Solution Manager, so that the upgrade is consistent.

hi nanda,

i used ETPRJSCHEDULER33P_104-20007176.SCA and tried to upgrade using SUM , i get the below error.

• 001 : Component sap.com/ETPRJSCHEDULER cannot be updated to higher release

I tried to upgrade using JSPM

the component is not picked up when i choose new software or single support packages

Please help

Please create an XML using the maintenance optimizer, then select the XML method in SUM tool.
