Hi,
I tried to jump into a 2-year-old post, but I don't think it's being monitored anymore. http://scn.sap.com/thread/2080469 I need to know where to get this custom tool so that I can create a new report in my application. Can someone please help me? Here's what I posted in the other discussion.
I'm in a situation similar to Nik (but two years later). However, I actually do not see CrystalDecisions.VSDesigner.CodeGen.ReportCodeGenerator in my GAC at all. I'm not sure where that is supposed to come from. I have a runtime downloaded for my application running in VS2010. It compiles. I can modify reports. I just haven't been able to create a new report and generate the .cs file. In addition to the downloaded runtime (I don't remember which version), I also have
SAP BusinessObjects
CR Developer
Version 14.0.4.738 RTM
Product Type: Full
Number of Licenses: 1
Can you please help me figure out how to generate my report's .cs file?
Thanks,
John
Request clarification before answering.
It's not that it is not monitored, but this is a community forum, not technical support as such. E.g.; you may get an answer, you may not. It may be timely, it may not. Depends on a number of variables...
In any case, let's continue on this thread. I am copying my reply to the other Discussion here:
Hello John
What version of the CR assemblies are you referencing in your project? Version 14.x is either from CR 2011, or 2013, neither of which install any SDK...

Hi Ludek,
I think the easiest way to indidate which runtime installation I have is to give you the name of the zip file I installed. CRforVS_redist_install_32bit_13_0_6.zip. I would have responded sooner but I didn't get an email indicating that you responded. I will try to check back here every 30 minutes or so.
Thanks,
John
Hello John
If you want to get emails, on the right side of this page there is an option "Receive email notifications". See if that will help.
Let's see what we can get if we go to the latest SP (SP 7). I'd like you to uninstall the SP 6 first (from Add / Remove), then download and install SP 7:
http://scn.sap.com/docs/DOC-7824
Make sure you're running the install exe, not the msm or msi runtimes.

Well, I'd rather not experiment. If you know for sure that the tool I need is in SP7 and that it was not in SP6 then I would be willing to try that. I have a stable system that is almost complete and I don't want to break anything. By the way, there was no install.exe in the SP6 download. Can you assure me that what I'm looking for is in the SP7 download?
Regarding emails, I set that option and the one below it yesterday. As for right now, I'm reading this on the "communications" page and that email option doesn't appear to be available on this page.
This is not experimentation... This is the way it should be done...

I'm sorry, but the way your instructions were worded made me feel like you were unsure as to whether this would resolve my problem. I didn't get an answer when I asked if this was going to install the missing piece or if that piece should have been in SP6 but wasn't for some reason. I'm not saying this to be confrontational. I just don't want my project "broken" and it appears to be very easy for someone going to the product selection page to click on the "wrong" download link because there's nothing indicating the differences in the downloads besides the name displayed for the link. It seems to be easier to select the wrong one than to select the right one, which, I guess, is why I'm here. I'm sorry if you feel like I'm being difficult. I just want to protect the project, for my sake, and for my company's sake, and not spend time unnecessarily.
I guess I have no choice but to try this, so I will. You've gotten me on the right path before.
I uninstalled SP 6 and installed SP 7. Now when I try to open my project it tells me "Your solution was created with an older or unknown version of SAP Crystal Reports. Your solution will be converted to using the newer version of SAP Crystal Reports, Version for Microsoft Visual Studio. If you choose not to convert, some design-time features may not" and nothing else is shown after that. I selected to create a backup and selected a location. After the first two attempts where it failed to create the backup folder in the default location and then it failed again even though I'd created a folder in a completely different location with all rights given to the "Everyone" user, it still fails to create the folder or files because it says I don't have the required permission to create the backup file or directory. I'm an administrator on the PC. I ran the application as an administrator. At this point, it appears that my only option is to run the application without converting the files. I don't know what features are involved or if they will or will not work, but I'm hoping that it hasn't changed anything permanently.
Well, with very minimal testing, it looks like if I don't convert, it runs. Also, it did, in fact, supply the necessary tool and it created the class code for the new report. I'm not sure what functionality may be missing or if anything was partially converted, but I'm going to run with this for now. Thanks for your help. I guess I would consider this an answer because it resolved my initial situation.
