Cannot drag available objects onto WebI report

I have something very odd going on.

When using the WebI Rich Internet Application I cannot add a new column to an existing block by clicking on it in the Available Objects pane and dragging it onto the block.  Neither can I insert a new table or copy & paste a table.

The only way I can seem to get anything on the report is when I initially create the query and WebI automatically puts a table on it. I am able to add columns or rows to an existing table if I right-click within the table and choose to insert a column or row.

And now here is where it gets weird.  Everything works fine if I use Web or Desktop version of Web Intelligence.  Also, things seem to work fine if I use an enterprise user rather than my domain user account.

We are on BO 4.0 SP04 Patch 5.  This problem is happening in both Firefox 19 and Internet Explorer 8.  I have Java 7 Update 17 on my machine.  However, I don't think that really matters since it works with a different user and I also have this problem on other machines.  In addition, I don't have this issue with my domain user account on my machine on another CMS.

Seems like something is wrong with my BOBJ user, but what?  I have been using the WebI Rich Internet Application for almost a year and this just started happening within the last couple days.  We have not made any system updates in that time.

Any ideas?

After trying everything, including recreating the user, we finally found something that solved the issue. In the WEBI Rich Client, there is an setting called "snap to grid". Somehow this option was checked. Once it was unchecked the problem went away.

That is a good find.  I checked the "Snap to grid" box to see if I could reproduce the issue and I could not.  However, we have upgraded our system twice (now 4.1 SP01 Patch 2) and I am sure I have updated Java on my machine too.

Thanks,

Noel

Hi,

One of my team members is facing the same issue, but in WebI Rich Client as well (not sure about in browser).  Did any of you face this too? Or is this  possibly due to the fix pack issue?

I checked the Java version  but that seems to be fine as compared to rest of the users. - Java 6 Update 29.

Help will be much appreciated!

Thanks!

Was this issue ever resolved. I'm experiencing the exact same issue. All of the functions work when using the BI launch pad but the drag and drop features do not work when using the WEBI rich client.

I never got a resolution.  If you try my scored earth solution of deleting and re-adding you user account be very careful.  Perhaps having a enterprise account aliased prior to deleting the Windows AD account might help.  The way I did it was very painful.

Hi Noel,

are you saying that this affects some users only? If yes, what do they have in common?

What happens if you try another workflow, i.e. right click and then insert ?

Thanks

When right-click and choose to insert a blank cell or a table nothing happens; it does not insert the object.  Yes this is only affecting some users, but I have not yet been able to figure out what they have in common.

Hi Noel,

this is something you wish to have investigated by support, maybe with an end to end tracing  (http://scn.sap.com/community/bi-platform/remote-supportability/blog/2012/11/06/how-to-generate-and-c...)

Thanks

I did not find out the cause of the issue, but support suggested deleting and re-adding the BusinessObjects user account of any users having this issue.  That worked for my own account and one other person that was having this same issue.

DISCLAIMER:

If you are going to delete a BusinessObjects user account and re-add it please realize you will lose the contents of that user's Inbox and Personal Folder and will have redo any group membership or user security that may be associated with the user account in question.

I have a painful addition to that disclaimer.  You will also lose any schedules associated with the user account that is deleted.  Not fun.  I am spending the morning (and maybe the day) re-running reports and re-creating schedules.

Can't you create a parallel account and investigate the reasons behind that behavior by checking with query builder?

Or is it too late?

Too late I already deleted and re-created the two accounts that this was happening with.  If this happens again I'll try that.

Thanks,

Noel
