BODS Performance details

Hello Experts,

Please provide below details to propose SAP BODS ETL tool for one of the client where source system is SAP ECC and BW. But based on the discussion with one BODS SME he mentioned following performance issue with SAP BODS, can anyone validate this.

• What is the largest size of source Data volume and type of source which has been handled by SAP BODS based on your
  project experience
• Extraction/Data fetching cycle of that source
• Is there Change Data Capture (CDC) requirement has been implemented or not
• Any experience where CDC has been implemented and in that case what is the volume using SAP BODS of course
• Size of target DB , % of growth per year and data retention strategy.

It would be great helpful if you can provide these information ASAP.

Hi Prasanna,

Here is the answer to your question based on my experience in the projects.

• What is the largest size of source Data volume and type of source which has been handled by SAP BODS based on your project experience

More than 50 millions at a time and it processes the data in less than 5 minutes. Source type were DB2 and Netezza database.

• Extraction/Data fetching cycle of that source

In my current project we have to run the cycle every one hour. It has to execute all the Jobs and generate various reports.

• Is there Change Data Capture (CDC) requirement has been implemented or not

We have not implemented this but used a different method to achieve the same as Netezza is bit costly when it comes to update. So here client was very specific on not using these BODS features.

• Size of target DB , % of growth per year and data retention strategy.

Big size in general, not very sure about the % of growth but it shall be not less than 10% in a year.
