Hi Subbu,

Coming from a QA background, I would recommend building a solid SAP BASIS foundation, but with a clear focus on cloud technologies.

Given SAP’s current cloud-oriented strategy, the natural evolution of the traditional BASIS consultant is toward SAP cloud platform administration, security, connectivity, integration, monitoring, and operations. For this reason, one of the best learning paths you could follow now is:

SAP Certification – C_ADBTP: SAP Certified Associate – SAP BTP Administrator

This certification provides a structured path to understand key SAP BTP concepts such as global accounts, subaccounts, entitlements, environments, connectivity, identity and access management, security, monitoring, and platform administration.

Alongside the certification journey, I suggest strengthening the following foundational areas:

  • Linux and basic operating system administration
  • Networking, DNS, HTTP/HTTPS, proxies, and certificates
  • SAP HANA and database fundamentals
  • SAP NetWeaver and SAP S/4HANA architecture
  • User administration, roles, and authorizations
  • Transport management, RFC connections, and system monitoring
  • Troubleshooting and log analysis

The best approach is to combine the official SAP Learning Journey with hands-on practice in an SAP BTP environment. Avoid preparing only for the exam—the real value comes from understanding how the platform is administered and how it connects with SAP and non-SAP systems.

In my opinion, C_ADBTP is currently one of the most appropriate and future-oriented starting points for someone who wants to move into SAP BASIS.

Best of luck with your SAP journey!
