Attaching a wid file

Dear moderators,

I would like to know if I am authorized to add a wid file as an attachment to an entry in this SCN . The reason for this is to share questions and solutions and also examples. If this isn't possible due to a file extension restriction one can simple change the file extension, upload it and the person downloading it would change it back.

Looking forward to your response,

Rogerio

Rogerio,

You can change the extension of the report to ".txt" and upload them in the posts for others to see the structure of the report.

Rogerio,

You can upgrade without any extension and ask the users to add extension.  You will NOT be able to attached .WID file to an SCN blog.  You could also use 3rd party tools like Google Docs, Drop Box, ... and attached the URL link.

If you are asking about authorization from SCN side, then probably yes as I have seen a lot of users in Crystal Reports uploading there .rpt files to get that back changed.

Ankush,

You may have several Crystal reports but I have NOT seen any .WID, the moderators won't allow it.

We need a confirmation from an SCN Moderator, other option is to use a link to 3rd party site.

Hi Ajay,

thanks for your response. That´s exactly my point.

I think that, if we are authorized to do so, it will be a great way of sharing reports templates with examples and solutions to questions.

Cheers,

Rogerio

Hi,

I'm not a moderator but you'd rather describe your workflow to reach the point to discuss and add some screenshots. Do not forget to tell the version you use.

The problem with using 3rd party tools is that in 6 months or one year, a new reader is not sure to still find your WID in this 3rd party tool.

If really you do not have the choice, then I'd recommend to publish:

- Unsecured WID, saved for all users

- WID that focuses only to the point to discuss

- Save with minimal data, in order to avoid large file to be saved in the forum.
