Adding local annotations in BAS adaptation project fails

We are adapting app F0702A for S/4 Hana 2022 SP01. When adding local annotations to adaptation project via BAS using the documented approach, the local annotation file does not load in the preview. Also tried by placing the changes in manifest_appdescr file. It yields the same result.

I checked my project, that change is in the manifest.appdescr_variant file. but it works.

Could you please let me know the version of the manifest.appdescr_variant and the UI5 version for your project?

I did try, but it yields the same error. Hence, I was thinking maybe it is tied to the version somehow

I have already tried exactly as you by putting the change in the manifest_appdescr file but with the same result.
