ABAP For Beginners

Hi there

I am a junior Functional Analyst in the Retail industry, I want to learn ABAP as I believe it could make me a stronger consultant, what areas or aspects of this languagewould you recomend I focus on as a Functional.

Could you please send any pdf documts that would be useful for a beginner.

I'd say you need to start with same ABAP foundation. Here, I like Sams Teach Yourself ABAP/4 in 21 Days

Hi Haydn,

I guess it depends a lot whether you are interested in "active" (as in programming) or "passive" (as in able to understand) knowledge about ABAP. For the latter you might want to use transaction ABAPDOCU which is the official ABAP Keyword documentation available within the SAP-System. ABAPDOCU contains a lot of ABAP examples with short programs which you can look at and execute.

I would suggest you look into SAP-Help and the Developer Tutorials, as - certainly as an "introduction" - it is a solid source of (free) Documentation. Some References :

• Developer Tutorials, Search for "ABAP" : link
• Specific Tutorial "Get Started with ABAP Development" : link

These could get you started.

If the examples of code are too complicated for some reason, you could try to Search the web for 'classic sample code' using the Search Term : "SAP ABAP SFLIGHT" as it relates to a Demo-Table "SFLIGHT" being used often in Introductory Courses on the ABAP System. However, you might end up learning an "outdated style" of Classic ABAP.
