Basic IBP overall functionality? how does it work?

1,292

Hi,

I understand IBP connects via CPI and fetch data from ECC/S4 and based on the data it provides analytics in various areas like inventory planning or demand planning etc. My Question is it just reporting in the end or it can replace MRP for e.g by giving recommendations? is there a future roadmap where it can replace BPC in SAP TPM?

Regards,

Dipender Singh

Hi,

This basic info helps to understand the IBP application usage.

SAP Integrated Business Planning combines supply chain monitoring, sales and operations planning, demand management, inventory planning, and supply planning into a comprehensive solution, which also supports the integration of data from external systems (for example, SAP ERP or SAP Advanced Planning and Optimization).

SAP Integrated Business Planning provides applications to facilitate the following:

  • Balancing of demand and supply
  • Harmonization of planning across corporate functions through organizational visibility and alignment
  • Responsive planning with advanced algorithms, optimization, and what-if scenario simulation planning
  • Demand-driven supply chain planning based on demand sensing, analysis, and predictive forecasting
  • Multi-stage inventory optimization and improved customer service levels
  • End-to-end supply chain visibility with real-time monitoring, analytics, alerting, and exception management
  • Creation of product allocation and supply plans, and ability to respond to changes with simulations and gating factor analysis

My Question is it just reporting in the end or it can replace MRP for e.g by giving recommendations?

It considers the MRP planning procedures and provides recommendations to business planners to plan product efficiently. Monitoring of the business processes (Demand, Supply, Inventory) uses MRP.

is there a future roadmap where it can replace BPC in SAP TPM?

BPC is a separate application for financial reporting, I assume integration from BPC to IBP is possible. Consume BPC data for TPM in IBP planning.
