Hello,
I am preparing for my coming up BW certification exam and I am looking for useful informtaion on what to prepare for the exam.
What are the courses that I need to cover for this? And I am also looking for some sample questions and sample exam format.
Could you please share any info you have and also your experience at the exam as what types of questions are expected and how was the difficulty level. I know the spread of the questions (datamodeling +++, Reporting +++ etc)
Thanks
John
Request clarification before answering.
Hi John !
take a look in the SAP Service Marketplace to check which courses are a prerequisite and the current list of topics that are covered.
http://service.sap.com/certification
...here you can find also a nice test simulator in order to train your-self.
The questions are confidential and can not be shared (SAP says), but a few time ago I posted some sample questions that you can find in this forum if yo search with the key word 'certification' (in Aug 31)...these questions are a little outdated, but you can consider them a good starting point.
Good luck for your next exam (and don't forget to le tet me know if you'll officially become a 'BW Guru' !!!
Bye,
Roberto

Dear Roberto,
I am also preparing for the exams. Pls could u provide the answers to the your posted samples? Some are tricky questions. Its really great that helpful people like you exist.
I am also seeking your advise based on your experience.
Should I stick to the cirriculum to safe time? Is the curriculum meant as a guide to the study for the exams?
Would topics not found in it pop up, eg. CRM extraction, Archiving, FI-SL, DataStage?
I realise that 100% preparation (remembering facts) is not possible after so many months of study & may not be sufficient to tackle all the questions. So, some guidance would be great.
Appreciate if u could share some of your experience.

George

At considerable cost to myself, I just recently went and attended the SAP BW 3.5 Training Academy (5 weeks of intensive training) and will hopefully be sitting the BW Cert exam in the next few weeks.
I have all the training material you need to get certified in BW, along with the SAP software so that you can setup a full training system and Study for the exam in your own time at your own pace at home!
I'd be willing to sell all my training materials to help offset the cost of paying for the course, if anyones interested please feel free to contact me for more information.

Hello All,
Can someone guide me that, the material BW360 - Performance - is it important for exam?
I remember one of the member suggested that the Authorization is not that important....What about the Performance ???
Thank You
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
Hi macho!
there were not many questions from performance when i attended this exam. And performance is not listed in examination topics for solution consultant. It is better to have some basic knowledge of performance but not soo important.
form authorizations you can expect at least 2 to 3 questions.
with regards
ashwin
You can change all your answers as long as you do not exit the exam.
My technique is to quickly go through all questions so that i answer the ones that I am sure. This takes about 1 hour. After that, start over from the beginnning and complete the questions that take more time. Leave unsure answers for the end.
Once that is done review every questions, for the ones you have no clue, try guessing or fill them all (as there are no negative points). WHen I go through this 3d time, I count on a paper the number of questions I am sure of or not. If you have more than 50% sure answers things should be going well.

Hi All,
I have one question reg. grade sys for BW Certification.I know it's multiple choice and some one mentioned in one of the forum that they do let us know if the question has multiple answers or single answer. If the question has multiple answer and by mistake if I mark just 3 of them while in real question has 5 answers then how they grade ?? will my answer be wrong ? Or I get credit for those 3 correct answers I marked..??
Or in another situation if from 5 correct answers if I makred 2 wrong then how they grade it ?? will it be completely wrong or I get credit for rest 3....
Some one pl. guide me.... thank you...
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
With multiple choice questions, each individual answer gives you points. The wrong answers do not remove points. Thus, with a 5 answers multiple question with more than one answer
where you would have answered 3 of them correctly, you would get the points for those 3 and lose nothing for the 2 wrong answers.
This means that in a question where you are told that 2 or more answers are correct you should always check between 2 and all answers.
This is the experience I have of MM and FI/CO certifications, but I assume all tests are made up similarly.
What is not clear however is the point value of the individual answers in a multiple choice compared to that single answer in a "Only one answer is correct" questions.
I suspect that the latter are given a greater weight in the final calculation ?
Thanx Claudio,
That means when u see that it is mention that question has multiple answers and if u r not sure about answers then just check all the options ...for the safe side as there is no negative grading.... right ???
Also, I m not familiar with the exam environment...i know it is computer based. but after finshing all 80 questions can i go beck and check all the answers...?? or once i makred the answer that means i can not edit my answer later???
Thank you for your answer..
Can somebody explain me difference between Delta Upload, Full upload and init upload ???
Awaiting for reply.....
Thank You
You must be a registered user to add a comment. If you've already registered, sign in. Otherwise, register and sign in.
A full upload is what is says. All data (within given selection) is loaded.
An init upload will trigger a delta. When you want to load with delta's (given the datasource/infosource used is supporting it) you first have to do an init load.
First after the init load you can load with delta's. (only "changed" or new data).
It's possible to do an init load without data transfer. E.g. only data from a certain point in time is necessary.
It's also possible to switch from full upload scenario's to delta upload (some notes exist, you'll find them in OSS)

who r u to delete my post ???????????/
Dhhhhh.... i haven't give the exam yet those questions were from one of the practice book and i was confuse about the answers so I had asked. i m preparing for exam.
if u didn't want to answer then don't ...u don't have to but have no right to delete anybodys post ...
pl. put back all my questions... i spent long time to wrote those questions.
Ok guys,
SAP Training material is copyrighted, so anyone please avoid to share it.
Mark Finnern says "actually to share the certification questions that are asked is also not really allowed, but I leave it out there for the SDN Members to learn from".
Then Marc Bernard arrives and says "you must not share or discuss certification items. They are confidential and anyone, who has taken the exam has signed a statement that they would not do so".
I don't know if you have ever seen a movie entitled "The Good, the Bad and the Ugly" (Il Buono, il Brutto e il Cattivo in Italian, the original language) by Sergio Leone (1966)...(if not, watch it !) and I don't want to proceed to the identification of the 'suspects' with a who-is-who game (let me know what's your opinion!), but if we can post some sample question, let us post with no censure (that, even if legitimate and in accordance to rights granted by law, is not so pleasant..)
otherwise, please DELETE ALSO MY POST and any previous one so we can settle things once and for all !
Bye,
Roberto
Hi Macho,
As the questions you asked were on similar lines to those asked in certifcate exam so moderator deleted the answers which I gave for it as well as your questions..
If you are not clear with the concepts request you go through the training material..each of the questions has got answers with in the material itself.
ALL THE BEST.
Regards,
Manga
Dear All,
let me quickly introduce myself. I work for the SAP NetWeaver Regional Implementation Group and I am one of the moderators of the BI forums.
I apologize for deleting the questions. After further review of the issue I have posted the Q&A back into the forum.
Although this is an open and free forum, the site is hosted by SAP and some rules apply. It should be clear to everyone that SAP can not tolerate any illegal activities here. So please refrain from doing so.
Some final words about the Q&A that I had deleted (and reposted by now): The posting does not indicate in any way that those are sample questions and not specific certification items (including the multiple choice format). When studying for the exam, Q&A like this might be helpful. However, the only reliable sources are SAP training material and documentation since the certification items are fully based on them.
Regards,
Marc Bernard

You need to attend the the classes (BW310, BW365 etc.)for the material. The training material in a soft copy form is not avaialable in the public domain for purchase or otherwise. Stuff like Reporting Made Easy Guide is available for purchase.

Hi Ravi,
The SAP Training material is copyrighted. You are not allowed to copy and share it.
If you want that material attend the class.
I haven't done this in a while and don't like it, but I deleted a couple of posts in that regards here.
Actually to share the certification questions that are asked is also not really allowed, but I leave it out there for the SDN Members to learn from.
Hope you understand, Mark.
At this point people may want to consider taking only the BW 3.5 certification. There is also a BW 3.5 delta for people who are BW 3.0 certified.

Hello all,
I recently finished my 3.0B certification and here is my take on it.
I started my preparation 4 weeks before the exam and read SAP courses 305, 310, 315, 330, 340, 350 and 365 and nothing else. I strongly suggest not to read Catherine Rose book and read only SAP material. These courses are sufficient to clear the exam. The only other stuff that you need to read other than this is on ASAP methodology. Again, you only get 4 questions on this, out of these you can answer 2 without reading this material. So, if you don't have time, you can skip this completly. Follow this link for a neat presentation on ASAP. http://www.soi.city.ac.uk/~pauline/?cont=4
You can expect a question from any corner of this material. For example, I got 3 easy questions on what is contained in "Metadata repository". "Data modeling" and "Reporting" carry maximum share of the marks. In reporting, concentrate on the types of variables, calculated keyfigures, restricted key figures, restriction options you have in creating conditions and exceptions. Here is some of the Info that I remembered from the exam
1. What are the contents of Metadata repository?
2. What objects you see in Metadata repository? Only
business content or all active objects?
3. 4 questions on Authorizations. Read the specified
topics in 365.
4. 4 questions on ASAP methodology. read the above
specified material and you should be good.
5. 24 questions in BEx. Cell Editor, AdHoc query
designer, currency conversion, structures etc. Some of
them are very straight forward....some might be
tricky. Read 305 and you should be good there. I guess
this is the easiest part.
6. Around 20 questions in Extractions. delta queues,
initialization, testing in RSA3, activities that you
can do from LBWE etc....They did not ask anything in
LIS extraction although it is included in the
syllabus. There were a few questions in CO-PA, like
what is safety delta etc...
7. A Few questions in data modeling, and about 15-20
questions in InfoObjects-InfoCubes.
8. Can you build a multiProvider on an ODS and
infoObject? Or, should there be atleast one InfoCube?
9. Can you build InfoSet on one or more Infosets? things
like that...
You will have 3 hours to finish the exam, which I think is much more than enough. I finished mine in 1:30 minutes. This is a real easy exam once you read all the courses specified above.
Good luck
John
PS:For practice, you might just want to refer to the questions from Catherine Rose book. but, don't remember answers from it or don't read the material. some of the answers were wrong.

Hi,
I'm actually going for my BW3.5 certification exam without attending TBW45 BPS course. I do have the notes from my friend, but the material is a alot to read.
My questions are:
1. How many BPS questions are there?
2. What kind of questions are asked for the BPS section? Concepts? Technical? Anyone can give me some sample questions?
Thanks,
CK
Hi CK,
When I sat the BW3.5 exam, there was 8 questions on BPS (10% of the exam).
You can find the weighting assigned to each subject for the certification exam at <a href="https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/certification">https://websmp203.sap-ag.de/certification</a>
The weighting for BPS is ++ (10-19%) so in theory, you could get max of 15 questions.
Hope this helps. Good luck.
Cheers,
Rog
Hello Everone, Here are some general questions that I have gathered. These are NOT Copyrighted Material. If there is a problem with these please let me know, and also note that these have been compiled from various sources so the grammer is not all that great. IF YOU FIND any of the answers to be wrong please do let me know. I have many more if needed.
1. What are the extractor types?
Application Specific
o BW Content FI, HR, CO, SAP CRM, LO Cockpit
o Customer-Generated Extractors
LIS, FI-SL, CO-PA
Cross Application (Generic Extractors)
o DB View, InfoSet, Function Module
2. What are the steps involved in LO Extraction?
The steps are:
o RSA5 Select the DataSources
o LBWE Maintain DataSources and Activate Extract Structures
o LBWG Delete Setup Tables
o 0LI*BW Setup tables
o RSA3 Check extraction and the data in Setup tables
o LBWQ Check the extraction queue
o LBWF Log for LO Extract Structures
o RSA7 BW Delta Queue Monitor
3. How to create a connection with LIS InfoStructures?
LBW0 Connecting LIS InfoStructures to BW
4. What is the difference between ODS and InfoCube and MultiProvider?
ODS: Provides granular data, allows overwrite and data is in transparent tables, ideal for drilldown and RRI.
CUBE: Follows the star schema, we can only append data, ideal for primary reporting.
MultiProvider: Does not have physical data. It allows to access data from different InfoProviders (Cube, ODS, InfoObject). It is also preferred for reporting.
5. What are Start routines, Transfer routines and Update routines?
Start Routines: The start routine is run for each DataPackage after the data has been written to the PSA and before the transfer rules have been executed. It allows complex computations for a key figure or a characteristic. It has no return value. Its purpose is to execute preliminary calculations and to store them in global DataStructures. This structure or table can be accessed in the other routines. The entire DataPackage in the transfer structure format is used as a parameter for the routine.
Transfer / Update Routines: They are defined at the InfoObject level. It is like the Start Routine. It is independent of the DataSource. We can use this to define Global Data and Global Checks.
6. What is the difference between start routine and update routine, when, how and why are they called?
Start routine can be used to access InfoPackage while update routines are used while updating the Data Targets.
7. What is the table that is used in start routines?
Always the table structure will be the structure of an ODS or InfoCube. For example if it is an ODS then active table structure will be the table.
8. Explain how you used Start routines in your project?
Start routines are used for mass processing of records. In start routine all the records of DataPackage is available for processing. So we can process all these records together in start routine. In one of scenario, we wanted to apply size % to the forecast data. For example if material M1 is forecasted to say 100 in May. Then after applying size %(Small 20%, Medium 40%, Large 20%, Extra Large 20%), we wanted to have 4 records against one single record that is coming in the info package. This is achieved in start routine.
9. What are Return Tables?
When we want to return multiple records, instead of single value, we use the return table in the Update Routine. Example: If we have total telephone expense for a Cost Center, using a return table we can get expense per employee.
10. How do start routine and return table synchronize with each other?
Return table is used to return the Value following the execution of start routine
11. What is the difference between V1, V2 and V3 updates?
V1 Update: It is a Synchronous update. Here the Statistics update is carried out at the same time as the document update (in the application tables).
V2 Update: It is an Asynchronous update. Statistics update and the Document update take place as different tasks.
o V1 & V2 dont need scheduling.
Serialized V3 Update: The V3 collective update must be scheduled as a job (via LBWE). Here, document data is collected in the order it was created and transferred into the BW as a batch job. The transfer sequence may not be the same as the order in which the data was created in all scenarios. V3 update only processes the update data that is successfully processed with the V2 update.
12. What is compression?
It is a process used to delete the Request IDs and this saves space.
13. What is Rollup?
This is used to load new DataPackages (requests) into the InfoCube aggregates. If we have not performed a rollup then the new InfoCube data will not be available while reporting on the aggregate.
14. What is table partitioning and what are the benefits of partitioning in an InfoCube?
It is the method of dividing a table which would enable a quick reference. SAP uses fact file partitioning to improve performance. We can partition only at 0CALMONTH or 0FISCPER. Table partitioning helps to run the report faster as data is stored in the relevant partitions. Also table maintenance becomes easier. Oracle, Informix, IBM DB2/390 supports table partitioning while SAP DB, Microsoft SQL Server, IBM DB2/400 do not support table portioning.
15. How many extra partitions are created and why?
Two partitions are created for date before the begin date and after the end date.
16. What are the options available in transfer rule?
InfoObject
Constant
Routine
Formula
17. How would you optimize the dimensions?
We should define as many dimensions as possible and we have to take care that no single dimension crosses more than 20% of the fact table size.
18. What are Conversion Routines for units and currencies in the update rule?
Using this option we can write ABAP code for Units / Currencies conversion. If we enable this flag then unit of Key Figure appears in the ABAP code as an additional parameter. For example, we can convert units in Pounds to Kilos.
19. Can an InfoObject be an InfoProvider, how and why?
Yes, when we want to report on Characteristics or Master Data. We have to right click on the InfoArea and select Insert characteristic as data target. For example, we can make 0CUSTOMER as an InfoProvider and report on it.
20. What is Open Hub Service?
The Open Hub Service enables us to distribute data from an SAP BW system into external Data Marts, analytical applications, and other applications. We can ensure controlled distribution using several systems. The central object for exporting data is the InfoSpoke. We can define the source and the target object for the data. BW becomes a hub of an enterprise data warehouse. The distribution of data becomes clear through central monitoring from the distribution status in the BW system.
21. How do you transform Open Hub Data?
Using BADI we can transform Open Hub Data according to the destination requirement.
22. What is ODS?
Operational DataSource is used for detailed storage of data. We can overwrite data in the ODS. The data is stored in transparent tables.
23. What are BW Statistics and what is its use?
They are group of Business Content InfoCubes which are used to measure performance for Query and Load Monitoring. It also shows the usage of aggregates, OLAP and Warehouse management.
24. What are the steps to extract data from R/3?
Replicate DataSources
Assign InfoSources
Maintain Communication Structure and Transfer rules
Create and InfoPackage
Load Data
25. What are the delta options available when you load from flat file?
The 3 options for Delta Management with Flat Files:
o Full Upload
o New Status for Changed records (ODS Object only)
o Additive Delta (ODS Object & InfoCube)
