Data Science seems to be the hottest topic around right now. When I was in school, the career guidance counsellor never suggested a job such as data scientist or data analyst – but how quickly things have changed! The role of Data Scientist has been named the “Best Job in America for 2016” by Glassdoor and McKinsey Group predict that by 2018, in the USA alone, there will be a shortage of 140,000 to 190,000 people with deep analytical skills. So what is data science and why should we care? Well, I don’t have the answers but there is a new six week course, Getting Started with Data Science, on openSAP where you can learn the basics.
With Getting Started with Data Science, you’ll learn about the fundamentals of data preparation, predictive modeling, and the deployment and maintenance of models in a business environment.
To begin, the course will cover the fundamental challenges of business problem understanding and identifying the appropriate analytical approach. Finally, you’ll learn about evaluating the performance of models and the approaches take to improve them before finishing with model deployment and maintenance, as well as debunking some common myths.
