Time for implementation

Hi All,

Can anybody give an idea about how much time is practically required to complete the implementation of SAP B1in a small scale business site?

Our implementations usually last between 3 and 10 weeks, depending on how fast the client is willing to move.

As per the Acceletated Implementation Program (AIP) 2.0, we have to complete B1 implementation in 46.25 days.

Last comment : how well are you covered through SAP standard ?

We have lost 90 days waiting for a bin management add-on and are still not live. So your project may depend a lot on external add-ons to complete the solution.

There's actually a very basic work around using UDF values within the Warehouse setup of SAP Business One to manage bin's. This will however, increase the number of warehouses within your B1.

I know this question has been answered, just wanted to offer my 2 cents in.

How long you take to implement would depend on a few factors:

1. How much time and effort did the Sales/Pre-sales team put into the prospect before the client signed on to SAP B1?

2. How much of a fit is the client's business processes to SAP B1?

3. How did you structure your project roll out? Did you promise them everything (all the modules) at one go, or did you say lets do it in stages?

4. Data migration. Does your client understand what you can and can not do when migrating data?

All in all, I've seen projects finish in 60 days, and I've also had projects that grew up to 120 days (project scope creep). Just document it as best as you can, put down in writing what you plan to do and agree beforehand with the client and you should be ok.

Having done several implementations I think this is a difficult question to answer without knowing a lot more facts. For example:

Is data conversion involved - if so what files and/or records?

Size of the company in dollars

record counts

training concepts - train all users, train the trainer, etc

How much time can the client and partner spend on the project? For example, you can tell someone that it might take 100 - 200 hours to implement B1 but the time span is really in most cased dependent on the client. I know of very few clients that can spend 5 or 6 days a week on this project.

You can calculate (if there are no specials (alerts, new query's), doc changes, etc) with 1 day per Aspect/Module (Installation, BP, Art/Price, Production, Sales, Procurement/logistic and Financial. After the exercise you also have done part of the training.

For extra training and support I should recommend 2 extra days and 2 days for start up.

I should recommend 1 Module-Session per week, because for the customer the normal work continues.

But if you have to make doc-changes or approval procedures and alerts based on new queries you need extra days very fast.
