Packing Code

Our Planning group wants to start populating the Packing Code field (Basic Data 2) with the UN number on our packaging material codes.  From my very brief Googling, this is an EHS field that works together with other fields.  It's not clear to me how it works and what the correct usage of the field is.  Can anyone educate me?

Do you use EH&S in your environment?

Or do intend to use this field for other purposes because you do not have and do not plan to use EH&S at all?

Yes we use the EHS module.  I'll have to just pass this along to our EHS folks because I'm not following it all.  Thank you.
