Material Master

What kind of goods or services that needs to be created in material master? What are the things to consider?

As far as I know, every goods that needs to be stocked are counted as material. Is there any more reason?

Dear josykes,

It's hard to answer such question as it depends entirely on business scenario and requirements.

For stock material it's must have, but also for consumable materials like office supplies might be useful to have for example one generic material no. (with possibility to change short text in PO) in order to have clear G/L account assignment. For such purpose you can check material types NLAG, UNBW, SERV which will be mostly suitable for your needs. This is also helpful in order to reduce inconsistencies as users can no longer create PO with what ever naming, materials, texts, blanks POs they like.

Also for ordering of services it's quite common that customer are not creating service master with mat. type SERV, but with NLAG in order to avoid Service Entry Sheet creation and to have same GR process for materials and services. (again depends on business scenario)
