Material Forecasting

Hai Gurus,

I have the following doubt.

1. What is the difference between Forecasting and Material Forecasting.

2. Whether Material Forecasting is done only for Raw material or it can be done for Raw material or Halb or Fert.

3. When you do forecasting for a particular material , whether PIR will be created for that material or not.

Find the answer of your question :

What is the difference between Forecasting and Material Forecasting. : In SAP forcasting is a tool to develope Demand Projection for a companyu2019s finished goods, components and service parts. The forecast is used by the production team to develop production or purchase order triggers, quantities and safety stock levels. The forecast is not static and should be reviewed by management on a regular basis. This is to ensure that information on future trends, the internal or external environment is incorporated into the forecast to give a more accurate calculation

2. Whether Material Forecasting is done only for Raw material or it can be done for Raw material or Halb or Fert. : RAW, HALB ,FERT for all sort of SAP Standrad material type .

3. When you do forecasting for a particular material , whether PIR will be created for that material or not : No .It will be PIR when you trasfer the damand through MP38 after executing Forecasting in MP30 , it will be in planning Table -MD61.You can look those PIR in MD04 after it sits into demand planning table in MD62.

Based on your reply I have one small doubt.

For example , when I am running Material forecast for a ROH / Halb/Fert , pl confirm the following steps is if

not correct the same.

1) Using T.C = MP38 or MMO2 we run Material forecast for ROH/ Halb/Fert, during this based on the trend value/Historical value,safety stock/re order value, the quantity of material to be procured or produced is arrived.

2) Using T.C = MP70 we transfer the PIR quantity to demand management.

3) View the requirement of ROH / Halb or Fert in T.C = MD04.

4) Run MRP using MD02 for ROH/ Halb/Fert which create purchase requisition or Planned order based on the requirement.

Please note below :

MP38-Execute Total Forcaste .Generally , the material should have Forecasting View maintained and MRP Type-VV-Forecast Base .If you are looking for Automatica Re-order point planning , then maintain MRP type V2 along with Forecasting view so that it will calcualte ROP/Safety Stock utilising previous consumption update at material master Forecasting View .

Where as MM02-Forecasting View-Execute forceast will be at individual level.

2) Using T.C = MP70 we transfer the PIR quantity to demand management : Yes.You need to captute those trasfer either at Plan number so that in MD62 if you enter that plan number , you can look around the deamdn qty at each item level on peridical basis .

3) View the requirement of ROH / Halb or Fert in T.C = MD04 : Once the damand get trasfer in Planning Table -MD62, then you can look them in MD04 indivually or collectively .For collective , utlise Collective option in MD04 enetre MRP contoller or MRP Type or any other selection .

4) Run MRP using MD02 for ROH/ Halb/Fert which create purchase requisition or Planned order based on the requirement : For Single item , multilevel execute MD02 so that it will only execute FER/HALB based on the BOM structure .

One quesiton : why are using Forecast Base Planning for FERT ?? What is the planning stategy ??

Hi ,

DO you know how the historical data in the forecasting view of MMR gets updated?

Can we change the forecasting model after implementation if it is not the right forecast model?

we can use MRP type"VB" also is there any difference in using 'V2"
