Good day all,
Please how do you avoid using different material codes for the same material that will be used in different locations?
Request clarification before answering.

Usually few persons are assigned to create material and they should be properly trained in how to search for materials, so that duplicated materials are not created. They should know that they can extend the material to different company codes, plants and storage locations as I have seen quite a few materials created with same description because of lack of proper training.

you have to well train the users who get the rights to create materials (it really should not be to many) how to use the F4 search help.
Technically you can only use an userexit and check some characteristics and send then a message if you are the opinion that it might become a duplicate.
