Hi All!

I am working on a global project and we need to meet a translation requirement.

I know that it is possible maintain different language for master data description such as material master data.

The requirements is that the client would like for example the vendor or customer master data in english and russian (cyrillic). Not only the field names then, but the data too.

Do you think it is possible to maintain vendors/customer name and, generally, other data object in different languages? How?

Hope someone could help me,

thanks in advance,

S

Hello,

you need to distinguish here between

a) general master data (e.g. material descriptions) and

b) address data / name.

In case of a), you will find in most cases translation functionality (normally via GOTO --> Translate) within the according transactions. Transaction SE63 might also help.

In case of b), SAP provides alternative address data ('address versions') described in SAP note 1375438 point 6.

In addition the following e-book might help you:

Translations and Address Versions in SAP ERP 6.0

S,

Most descriptive data items in SAP can be maintained in multiple languages. For instance, for Material number, the Material number is always the same, but the description of the material number can be maintained in multiple languages. Descriptive texts in reports can also be maintained in multiple languages.

As you can imagine, this can double the workload of the business user who must manage the creation and maintenance of master data. Translation is not automatic for these text items. If you have a text you wish to load into the system in both English and in Russian, you have to enter both descriptions. For many companies, this additional workload does not make sense, and they instead force users to log on in a single language.
