Hi Experts;

There are 9 plants under one company code and one plant required to use internal batch numbers for all materials ( Finished, semi finished, raw materials). Currently company use external batch numbering under batch level "Material".

As per my knowledge conversion is at client level. Could you please explain me the possibility and impact of the change. If it is possible, what are the steps which i need to follow.

Thanks & Regards;

switching the batch level back to plant level is not recommended (especially not if you use APO, which can't work with plant level), see OSS note 41715 - Resetting the batch level to plant level

If you exchange materials between the plants then it is not a good approach to exchange the batch numbers anyway.

But I do not really see a bigger issue to use internal batch numbering for batches created in a certain plant. However you need to control it with user exits if your plants are using a different approach.

Hi Experts;

Thanks for the immediate reply...

I want to convert external batch numbering to internal numbering only for one plant in the company. Is it mandatory to go with user exit?.

Is there any other impact of converting external to internal, when we do batch sorting with self life.

Thanks;

Malka

you don't convert any existing numbers, all batches remain as they are. You just turn on internal numbering and then you need to define in the exits for which plant you force internal numbers and where you still want to use external numbers. Read the documentation that is available in front of each task in the IMG.

Look into the customizing if you see anywhere that you define that customizing at plant level, if that is not the case then it is always valid for your entire system, and then you have to use exits to control it differently

Hi Jurgen;

This is the status on OMCZ,It is on inactive stage.

In "Internal Batch Number Assignment for Assigned Goods Receipt"

The relevant plant is marked. My query is, do i need to change the setting in OMCZ to function internal batch numbering.

Thanks;

Without having the radio button at Active you will not get any internal number assignment, and this is valid system wide.

The second screenshot will only decide in which plant you create batches for account assigned receipts (which often does not create any inventory, so you should really think if that is at all needed in your processes)

So there is nothing which defines that plant A uses internal and plant B external numbering. This is still to be controlled in exits.

Much better if you could convince your plants to find a common approach. If one plant can go with internal numbers why can't the others? Often this is just "we allways did it this way and don't want to go new ways"

First you need to activate the batch with IMG path

IMG>  Logistic General>Batch management> Batch Number Assignment>

Activate Internal Batch Number Assignment> choose Activate Batch Number Assignment>select Automatic batch number assignment active

Pre-requisite- Test in development only. Make batch stock zero first.

In the standard SAP System, the plant level is set as the batch level. If you want to use a different level in your company, you have to change it in Customizing and carry out a conversion program. You choose the batch level in Customizing for Batch Management under Specify Batch Level and Activate Status Management. While the conversion program is running, you can only post batches at the old level. You can only post batches at the new level after the conversion has been completed. You cannot change back from a higher level to plant level in the standard system. However, you can change the batch level from client level back to material level. To change the batch level from plant level to material level, the material has to be subject to batch management in all plants.
