Hi,
I am an HR abapper. I want to get into functional side of HCM. i have knowledge of most of the modules in HCM. But to become a functional consultant in HCM, Do I need to be expert in all the modules of HCM or will it be enough if i can master in specific sub modules like OM, e-recruitment or TM or PY etc.??

Request clarification before answering.
Get the basics right first.
Start with PA and OM. These are a must have for any HCM functional consultant.
Keep and eye on Time when you are learning these modules and move to Time as quickly as possible.
I would have suggested moving to Payroll, but again its a country specific thing and also the complexity involved is tremendous. So, take your time moving to Payroll, but its very much in demand, so don't neglect it. Would suggest going through course material HR400. Its very helpful for Payroll and forms the basis of learning payroll.
Considering you are an HR ABAPper, if you have worked a bit on the portal side of ABAP, then get into ESS/MSS and E-recruitment. These are hot right now with very less resources available worldwide with these niche skills.
Addition of Performance management and PD is a plus point. Look out for them.

My suggestions will be to start with PA/OM module. Once you have the basics in place,then go for ESS/MSS as they are very much in demand now. Also, they are more technical oriented and your technical expertise will help you to learn it faster. After this, you can look for other e-modules e.g. e-rectruitment, LSO, etc.

Well I would suggest, to go for E-recruitment and ESS/MSS Portal....... There are lot of openings in those modules and less workforce available....
Since you are an ABAPER, I guess it would be good start for you as a functional consultant....... Besides these...... the mandatory modules are PA,OM, Compensation......

As per my suggestion please go through PY and TIME and yes u shd also have knowldge on all the other modules
PA OM PY Time are mandatory
