Whats the difference between Performance based and Condition based maintenance. And how they are mapped in SAP.

Condition based Maintenance or Predictive Maintenance
You do Maintenance on based on Condition of Equipment . To Understand condition you Carry out Vibration analysis , Corona detection , Oil Analysis , Sound Level measurements ,temperature , Acoustic & Other Online Test periodically or continous(online) , based on Reading you Decide is this equipment to be taken for maintenance.
Performance based Maintenance
I think you can Consider this as One type of preventive Maintenace , where you carry out inspection or maintenace , based on Performace parameter given by OEM or experience.
IN SAP
Try to Create Different Order Type for " Condition Based Maintenance" from Standard & Correspomding "Condition Based Notificatiom"
For Performance I Better Recommend You to use Order Type " Preventive Maintenance" & Corresponding "Preventive Notification" & Counters . You Can Used Sort field in Maintenance Plan to differentiate "time based " or "Counter based".

In addition to ...
Performance based maint you can map in SAP thru' maint plans i.e, based on your performance (which you record thru measuring document) maint cycle will run and schedule call dates as per cycle you mentioned in plan.
For Condition based as such no provision is given directly. You have to use user exit IMRC0001 to actually get notification automatically whenever your measuring document reading goes beyond the upper range you specified in measuring point. That is your condition is deterioted so notification generated.

In typical business function it is as:
Performance based maintenance : Activities or parameters which determines performance of technical object are basis or trigger point for maintence activities.These parameters are like running hours,running Km etc.Where performance is either incremental or decremental.Typical example of decremental is aircraft running hours if you want to do maint after perticular hrs are balance and incremental is to do maint after only completing perticular running hours. In case of incremenatl/decremental performnce is always cumulated and based on total perfirmance value trigger will happen.
Condition based: This is based on condition monitoring,means object condition at any given point of time and if it is not valid then it is used as trigger.Here continuous monitoring of conditions expected.
Like as soon as operating pressure of turbine lub pump increases you need to replace/clean hydraulic filter.Note here that pressure monitoring here is continuous process and known as condition monitoring.Many times it is either through SCADA or DCS.

Performace Base Maintenance:
With performance-based maintenance plans, you can plan regular maintenance based on counter readings maintained for measuring points at pieces of equipment and functional locations. To represent simple maintenance cycles, you can create a single cycle plan. To represent complex maintenance cycles, you can create a strategy plan based on a performance-based maintenance strategy.
Assign a counter to the maintenance plan. Maintenance takes place when the counter for the technical object has reached a certain reading, for example, every 100 operating hours, every 500 moulding cycles. The calculated planned date depends on the counter reading at the time of planning, and the estimated annual performance that has been defined for the counter.
Condition Base Maintenance:
In condition based maintenace the target value exceeds permissible limits.
e.g. If Boiler Stack temperature Exceeds 105 degree then you have to check Air To Fuel Ratio.

In layman language, Performance Based Maintenance means you are observing the performance of the machinery and based on the results you carry out or plan maintenance activities.
Whereas Condition Based Maintenance means, you are actually monitoring the condition of the machinery, for ex. based on the condition of bearings or wear down of cylinder liner.
But in SAP Performance based means preventive maintenance, where you create and schedule maintenance plans on the basis of regular cycles which may be running hours, counter readings or simply time(month/day/years).
Condition Based in SAP means a calibration inspection in a systematic examination used to determine whether or not a piece of equipment meets previously specified requirements. It combines features of the quality management and asset life-cycle management areas within SAP. This ensures condition-based maintenance by allowing you to record quantitative or qualitative inspection results, determine whether the inspected equipment is operational or not, set calibration intervals according to the determined equipment condition, and predict the optimum time for repair or replacement.

In addition, to be more specific, in SAP you can use maintenance plans to cover both the scenarios.
Performance-based: Preventive maintenance tasks are due when a specific
performance level has been reached, for example, every 10,000 km.
Condition-based: Preventive maintenance tasks are due when a condition
is outside a specific value range. For example, a thread depth below 15
mm or temperature higher than 85 C.
