Difference between Maintain Source list and Generate source list?

Hi Gurus,

Pls tell me the Difference between Maintain Source list(ME01) and Generate source list(ME04)?

Hi,

ME04 is only to see what changes has been done in the exising source list and it is not to Generate source list.

Hi

You create source list manually for a metrial with available vendors, i. e ME01 , during course of time you may not be using the same vendors alone for procuring the material. You may go for othere vendors also. Now you have multiple records which might have been created from Info_ records and the other pricing sources for vendor .mat combination i.e outline agreements.

Now even though you have created source list for few vendors but you also procure the same material from othere vendors for which you do not have source list. Now if you wish to have the other vendors in your source list for the material then yo need to generate the source list. You need todo it in ME05.

Since there is no disply source list like other Txns. you can view the Source list using ME0M Txn code.

Source List (ME01) - The source list facilitates the det. of the source that is applicable (effective) at a certain point in time.

[We have to mention Valid from u2013 to date, Vendor, Pur. org., Agreement, Fixed source of supply or Blocked source of supply, Source list usage in materials planning and control]

Source Determination - The process of finding sources of supply for a material or group of materials.

ME01 - Maintain Source List

ME05 - Generate Source List

Hi

ME01 is to maintain source list and ME04 is not Generate source list as u said, it is to see what changes has done in the exising source list.

Generate source list is an Icon in ME01 only which means it creates a new record exactly on the lines of old record.

In ME01, we are entering the sources manually, but through generate source list button, already existing sources for the material will get copied from info record, contracts etc. Generate source list also done in ME01.

Hi,

ME01 is use to maintain the source list for any material and plant

AND

ME04 is use to see the changes done for any source list of any specific material.Its a one kind of report
