Data Mapping

Hello all,

I am new to the concept of Data mapping.

Can anyone explain me Data mapping in detail or refer to soem study material. I have an excel sheet that i need to map and have to detrmine mapping rules for the same.

Data mapping is basically finding all of the sap fields that need to be populated and finding the fields in the legacy system that contain this data and then mapping one to the other with some conversion rules in the middle.

For instance if ypou want to map the Plant (WERKS) field in SAP and in the legacy system it is called Plant and it has 5 digits the mapping would be field PLANT = Field WERKS nd the conversion rule would be something like Plant 12345 becomes Plant 1234

This is basic but gives you the idea.

This is most important for material master data.
