Custom Time Dependent Table Date Validations

Hello Experts,

I've created a custom time dependent table and generated the table maintenance. In SM30 Table Maintenance, I can see that the table is indeed time dependent as I have the Expand/Collapse and Delimit buttons. However, two things don't behave as expected:

1. I can create two entries with overlapping time frames (and otherwise the same key). In a sap standard time dependent table this is automatically prevented with validation even though I found no events for that table. So where does the different behaviour come from?

2. Delimiting an entry with the Delimit button only changes the end date. On this forum I've read that the button is supposed to split the entry into two entries.

Thank you

For some versions nowadays, when you create a new record that has the same key as an existing record, the system automatically restricts the validity of the existing record so that only one entry is valid at a time.

  • What's your version (not so old?)
  • Mostly, how did you define the table, with two from/to dates, one must be part of the primary key and the second must be the first non-key field.

The Table is time dependent but doesn't have the same validations as some other time dependent tables.

Did you actually generate the time dependency, during creation : Environment / Time-Dep./ Generate or was it automatically generated?
Do you see the delimit button?
