Hi Gururajan,
Cross-docking is a way to move materials directly from the goods receipt area to the shipping area without first being stored. Cross-docking can be planned or opportunistic, as well as executed in one step (directly from GR to GI) or two steps (going first to a specified cross-docking storage type for repacking or labeling for example).
The steps for this process will be:-
->Create outbound delivery
->Create inbound delivery
->Plan with cross dock monitor
-> Post goods receipt for inbound delivery
->Create transfer order for inbound delivery
->Confirm transfer order for inbound delivery
->Create transfer order for outbound delivery
->Confirm transfer order for outbound delivery
->Post goods issue
Processes rapid material turnover in a distribution center or warehouse where the goods are brought from the goods receipt directly to goods issue without being stored.
Planned Cross Docking
Matches inbound deliveries to outbound deliveries:
a) One-step Cross Docking: Transfers goods with one transfer order from inbound to outbound.
b) Two-step Cross Docking: Transfers goods from inbound to an interim storage type (for example, staging area, repacking zone) and creates a subsequent transfer order from the interim storage type with destination outbound deliveries.
Opportunistic (Unplanned) Cross Docking
Detects opportunities for cross docking in a dynamic environment. One-step Cross Docking: Transfers goods with one transfer order from inbound to outbound.

HI Gururajan,
Yard Management extends warehouse management beyond the physical walls of the warehouse, enabling management and control from the time that goods are planned to arrive at the warehouse. It covers:
Check-in and check-out of vehicles
Scheduling of doors and staging areas for vehicles
Movements in the yard
Execution of operations in the yard, such as weighing and sealing/unsealing vehicles
Registration of the start and finish of loading and unloading of vehicles (by delivery or for whole vehicle)
SAP Extended Warehousing and Logistics for Retail and Wholesale Distribution offers support for processing various goods movements and for managing stocks in your warehouse complex covering processes like cross-docking, yard management, slotting and rearrangement.

Cross docking means transhipment. I'll explain with an example, suppose in your warehouse you are going to receive material A, 500 kgs today and the same material you have to ship to a party, then instead of taking those stocks inside your godown, you can directly ship them by moving it into the respective truck....
The advantage of this is that it saves time of unloading and then loading again...
Yard management is a series of activities which we follow right from the truck arrives till the time it moves out from the warehouse.
if you want in detail i'll send you shortly.....

Noopur
