Hi,
Below is the basic CO structure.
Client -
> COPA -
> CO Area -
> Company code
Operating Comcern (COPA) is the environment in which you can analyse profitability segment wise, market wise, etc.
Segment is combination of characterstics ( Customer, division, distribution channel, product, etc,)
Hope the above information helps you to get an idea.

Murali

Hi,
COPA is the highest reporting environment with in R/3.
though it looks, but its not part of CO as in CO CO Area is highest level.
Operating Concern ,the Org Unit in COPA can have n no of CO Areas.
typical Costing based Copa will create its own Tables for Data.
All the data will get stored in COPA Tables and arranged according to the relations and requirements of COPA reporting.
BIW Environment is just higher than Copa.
I hope this will give you the basic purpose of Copa.

Hi,
Profitability Analysis allows Management the ability to review information with respect to the companys profit or contribution margin by business segment. Profitability Analysis can be obtained by the following methods:
1. Account-Based Analysis which uses an account-based valuation approach. In this analysis, cost and revenue element accounts are used. These accounts can be reconciled with FI.
2. Cost-Based Analysis uses a costing based valuation approach as defined by the User.

Hi
COPA is Profitability anlysis in CO. This helps in analysis of PROFIT at segment level for the given sales made. This can be acheived by mapping SD conditions for sales and sales deductions and costs will flow from product costing and other cost objects to COPA. Go through Transaction code ORKE all sub nodes
