BOM Explosion Type & Selection Method !

Dear Sir :

I have gone through several post on BOM Explosion Type & Selection Method and have the following questions :

1.     Tcode to define BOM Explosion Type is OS17 and then what is the Tcode / SPRO Path to define BOM Explosion Selection Method ?

2.     We assign BOM Explosion Selection Method in MRP 4 View of MM and where BOM Explosion Type is assigned other than BOM Item Detail ?

Actually, SCN says BOM Explosion Type is assigned in Plant / MRP Parameter. But i checked there, onle BOM Explosion Selection Method is been specified there ?

As per my knowledge, there is no SPRO path to define customizing setting for Selection Method. These are predefined keys in SAP. BOM explosion type is assigned to BOM item details only.

Hi Dinesh,

BOM explosion type & Selection Method are 2 different things.

Selection Method is responsible for the selection of "Alternative BOM". It sets the criteria by which alt BOM gets selected for header material. It could be based on Production Version, Order Quantity or explosion date.

Incase you want alternative BOM to be selected based on explosion dates then you need to maintain setting in OS32 or Production > Basic Data > Bill of Material > Alternative determination > Define alternative determination for Multiple BOMs.

If you want alternative BOM to be selected based on lot size then you need to maintain lot size details in BOM master data using CS02.

Similarly based on production version, you need to set relevant settings in PV.

I hope you understand the difference between BOM explosion selection method which is used to select the header material alternative BOMs based on different selection criteria which is maintained in MM MRP4 view.

BOM explosion type is basically used to explode the BOM in order to determine the dependent requirements in planning which is defined in customization of  Bill of Material Item Data Define explosion types:  and assigned to BOM item details only.

Now where did you see this information can you please post the source for same?

Hi Dinesh,

you assign explotion type to your bom item. according to that the bom will explode in mrp run.

please do not forget to reward points if answer is helpful.
