Batch Level at Material level

Hi All,

Batch level is set as "Batch unique at Material level". I have created batch 0000000049 in plant P001. Again I tried to create same batch for plant A007, system is allowing to create same batch. As per config it should not allow to post same batch in different plant.

Kindly suggest is the correct system behavior or I am missing something

Is this really so difficult to understand?

If you have defined plant level for batch management (which is already a long time not anymore recommended) then one plant can use batch management for a material "CAR" while the second plant is happy without batch management.

Further a batch number 123 for material ABC in plant 1000 is a totally different batch than batch 123 (same number) of the same material ABC in plant 2000 , the batch can for example be blue in plant 1000 and red in plant 2000.

Uniqueness is formed by the combination of Material number , batch number and plant number

If the batch level is material level then you can have the batch 123 only once for material ABC, wherever it is, if it is blue in plant 1000 then it is blue in plant 2000 too. It is physically and technically the very same batch. You can however have a material DEF which also has a batch 123. Uniqueness is formed by the combination of Material number and batch number only.

And finally you have the client level. You know, client is the first box in your logon screen. With this setup you can have the batch 123 only for one material. e.g. for material ABC, it is not possible to create the batch 123 for material DEF. The batch number can only exist once per client. If you labelled your goods with a batch number, then you can go into your system and it will tell you the exact material number, you can only get 1 material for 1 batch number.

Hi Jurgen,

Thanks for your explanation!

Our requirement is, once goods are received against one batch for example; batch 0000000049 material 1400000036 plant P001; system should not allow to receive same batch against same material in different plant i.e . batch 0000000049 material 1400000036 plant A007.

As per my understanding of Material level, system should not allow to post batch 0000000049 material 1400000036 at plant A007. But is allowing to post.

Try to create the batch 0000000049 again with a different material number, then you will understand what material level means.

Hi Jurgen,

Thanks for your reply!

I tried to create batch 0000000049 for other material 1400000084. System has created that also.

now you know that the same number can be given to different materials - so it is correct that the batch is unique at material level, if you change a value (e.g. manufacturing date) in the batch 0000000049 of material 1400000036 then this value is not seen in batch 0000000049 of material 1400000084

Now display batch 0000000049 of your material 1400000036 for plant A007 and then again for P001 and you will see the same value in both plants, you cannot have plant specific values since the batch level is material level.

Hi Jurgen,

So he created the batch-0000000049 for other material-1400000084 for which plant?

Thanks,

Sai

You can have numerous partial receipts to the same batch number.

With internal batch numbers you will always get a new number proposed, but the user can overwrite to an existing number. This is a matter of education.
