base quantity?

hi all,

what is base quantity and base uom in BOM ? pls put it in detail..

Dear chinta

Base Qty--the qty is required to produced BOM material

Example- U have BoM for Finished Goods say "X"

Inside "X" U have

a Raw material 0.5 kg (per unit)

b raw material 0.25 kg (per unit)

in this point UR base quantity is "1".

If U want to round up UR raw material qty then multiple in to 4.

Inside "X" U have

a Raw material 0.5 kg (per unit) X 4=2 kg

b raw material 0.25 kg (per unit) X 4=1 kg

in this point UR base quantity is "4".

So put base qty 4 in header data & in component enter raw material like

a Raw material 2 kg

b raw material 1 kg.

It means if I want to produce for 4 kg of FG then I will take Raw material "a" 2 kg & raw material "b" as 1 kg.

Hi Chinta - Sorry, but I beg to differ on the opinions of some experts here.

Base quantity is the quantity of header material you want to produce. All other quantities are relative to the base quantity.

But this does not mean that to produce 2 PCs you have to have the BOM base qty as 2. The required qty is inferred from the production/process order by the system, it then calculates the component qtys based on the BOM component qtys. So essentially, the base qty in BOM tells you how much (end product) you can produce by consuming the components as defined in BOM.

Hi,

Base Qty--the qty is required to produced BOM material,i.e for production of single BOM material ,we enter components/child parts. if there is base qty 1000,then u have to enter in terms of multiple component qty.

Base UOM--UOM pick from material master for BOM Header material.

hi,

for BOM ,U could gets details from Design Dept,

For EX. to assemble ine PC ,What parts u require?

mopuse ,CPU,Motherboard,ram etc.

if i need one pc. then my base quantity is 1.

and components i need are...

1- cpu

1 - mouse

etc..

and if i require two pc's, then my base quantity would be 2.

and components should be

2 - cpu

2 - mouse...etc

is it as simple as that.

Hi ,

Pl. note following

Since base qty plays an important role from BOM into Business scenario,

During production order creation master data for BOM is copied with referenec to Base Qty,

if this master is not OK,then it effects into consumption of child parts leads to effect into profit & loss statement of finanancial accounting,creates lot of mess.

So the base Qty plays imp. role into business scenario.
