Shift from SAP technical to ???

Hi Experts,

Hope you all are doing well. I have around 9.5 years of SAP technical  experience (9 years in ABAP, 1 Year in PI,  4 years in EDI, 1 year ABAP with BI,BW 3.5).I have a very good understanding FI,SD,MM processes etc and pretty good knowledge of configuration related FI... would like to shift from technical to  business side (BA or Function consultant or something else)..I would like to achieve my goal in another 4 years..kindly suggest me some good ideas so that I can prepare a road map   to achieve my goal and what ever I learn should provide me good opportunities after 4 years. I have bachelors in Computer science and engineering....

First of all you need to identify the reason why you want to move out of the technical role?

is it because you are not comfortable with it? or just for a change.

Looking at the span of your work experience I dont think you are feeling uncomfortable doing technical.

Shifting to all together functional is also not a good idea.as you need to compete with already established players.

If at any cost you want to make a move my advice would be choose one functional area try to work in that area as techno functional for couple of years and eventually to a functional role in that module.

Hello Gowri,

Seeing your experience, I feel you have a good knowledge in functional side and expert in technical. I would suggest you to plan for a Technical Architect role which is very valuable role for any implementation projects. Most of the things which a Technical Architect should have, are there in you.

Hello Gowri,

I think it is based out of our experience.To be more specific, what I heard is Technical Architect role is more on Project specific, but another role could be a Business Analyst role which would be similar to architect, but more of client interaction.It will actually be helpful in deciding which technology, which approach, what kind of suggestions can be provided.

I am not sure if there is any certification for that.
