This is part of the August Developer Challenge on Joule Studio.

Now that you have a background in SAP Joule, we come to the part everyone is waiting for:  New Joule Studio. SAP Joule Studio is SAP’s AI-first development environment for building custom AI agents, apps, and workflows. Powered by the SAP Business AI Platform.

During this challenge, you will be taking up a course to build your foundational knowledge about the New Joule Studio, which was announced during Sapphire 2026 in May. 

Your Task 

Step 1:  Click on this link: Introducing Joule Studio.   

Step 2: On the top right corner, click on the User Icon to log on to SAP Learning with your SAP Universal ID and password. 

Click on “Start Learning” to begin the course. 

You will be offered 3 units to complete.  

Unit 1: Big-Picture SAP Business AI Platform – Pillars of SAP Business AI Platform.  

Unit 2: Joule Studio – Intent-Based development, Demo, Creating AI Agent 

Unit 3: n8n Workflows in Joule Studio – creating n8n workflows in Joule Studio.

Classic Joule Studio is configuration-driven. The user needs to manually configure each step for analysis, requirements, development, testing, and deployment

New Joule Studio is intent-driven. The user provides the business requirement in simple language, and the system automatically handles analysis, PRD generation, solution/code or workflow generation, testing, and deployment

Answer to the question: The Classic Joule Studio requires you to manage each development step separately, such as analysis, documentation, coding, testing, and deployment, while the New Joule Studio uses an intent-based approach: you describe what you want to achieve, and it analyzes the intent, creates the requirements, builds the solution or workflow, tests it, and prepares it for deployment.

One key difference between classic Joule and new joule studio is that Classic joule studio is more configuration based, where we build skills and agents manually. The new Joule studio is intent-based, where we describe the business requirement in natural language and joule studio helps build the solution.

A key difference is that Classic Joule Studio requires manual configuration of skills and agents step-by-step within SAP Build. In contrast, New Joule Studio introduces intent-based development, allowing you to describe business goals in natural language to automatically generate specifications, workflows (like n8n), and code on a fully SAP-managed runtime.

With classic Joule we create AI Agent and skills. But with Joule studio 2.0 it's a unified, intent-to-custom agentic enterprise solutions' development experience. Along with agents' creation, now it also has n8n, a low-code workflow automation tool integrated into it for building agentic workflows that orchestrate SAP and third-party agents and automations.

As part of the Week 2 August Developer Challenge, I have completed the course "Introducing Joule Studio". This course explained the step-by-step creation of an AI agent (HR agent) and an n8n workflow (connecting to SAP S/4HANA Private Cloud to pull new purchase orders and route them to SAP Task Center for approval) with Joule Studio using simple examples. Looking forward to continuing my learning and exploring more of SAP Business AI.

Classic Joule Studio primarily focused on creating skills and extending Joule through predefined conversational capabilities. New Joule Studio provides a more comprehensive environment (Intent-based development) for building AI agents and agentic workflows, allowing Joule to reason, use tools, access business data, and perform multi-step tasks.
