Looking for a good beginners ABAP book.

Hello All,

I've pretty much been a strong functional SAP FICO person. Lately I've been asked to become more invovled with ABAP work. I can follow the logic fairly well but but to be honest I don't even know where to begin to write any code. I would like to hear from those of you who are already using ABAP if you've found any particular books to be helpful in teaching you the system.

A lot of SAP books are way too general and are more like sales presentations than instruction manuals. So before I buy a book I'd like to get some referrlas on which books would be a good investment in regards to learning SAP ABAP.

I agree. This one did the job for me too. Aside from that, just go through TA ABAPDOCU in my opinion. There are tons of good examples and you'll only learn ABAP hands on.

There's a world of difference between learning the keywords, and even how to use them, and programming. If you're interested not just in making your program work, but making it maintainable, then I recommend books like The Pragmatic Programmer by Andrew Hunt and David Thomas.

Offical Programming Guidlines by SAP Press

It is not about naming conventions, it's about good ABAP.

I always surf the net, but of course, you find a lot of crap there too.

I also looking at youtube where a lot of people share their knowledge and you have the possibility to see what they do.

It is one of the basic book in which most of the abapers have come across.this book covers almost all standard topic which an abaper will come across in daily life.

Note: Obsolte Programming practises are followed in the book.But for getting a bigger picture and analysing any logics it is more than enough.
