Valid Character set for Data type CHAR

Hi all,

Where can I see a valid character set for the data type char.

Scenario:

The BIN (LGPLA) in WM (LAGP) is a CHAR 10 data type Users have requested that we set up the BIN ID as xx000xx.

or similar I am trying to discourage the . at the end but they want this as a unique Identifier and will be at the end of all bins,

My concern is that this may at some point cause a problem for ABAP coders.

Is this a valid concern?

I know SAP has special characters such as * and - but is . a special one or are my concerns unfounded?

Your concern is probably unfounded.

Hi Matthew,

Thanks for your response, can you elaborate on your reasoning for saying my concerns are unfounded?

I am concerned because of the use of "probably" because equally my concerns "probably" could be valid..

Tell me more please.

Depends on how long you've been an ABAPper and how good you are

Based on my over ten years experience of SAP and ABAP, I can't think of any reason whatsoever why it would be a problem. But there is a small possibility that I'm wrong. Hence "probably". I'd be 99.99% confident.

Hi Matthew,

Once again thanks for your response, I did not mean to infer in my response that you did no have the necessary experience to answer this question I was trying to ascertain if you had merely responded for the sake of gathering points and hence my guarded response to your original response.

I too have a long number of years experience of SAP and ABAP and have come across some problems in relation to special characters in SAP but not this particular circumstance also I have experienced answers from people in the past which turned out to be incorrect.

I accept your answer and meant no offence.

regards,

None taken. I hadn't noticed that this one of your first posts, so you may not have noticed that the forums have improved considerably since moderation has become much stricter.
