trace step,search help

hi good even,

i dont know how to create the search help for a field for a particular table.

plz tell clearly with each steps.

and i don't know how to trace the abap statements for a particular program. just like as F7 key using in c and c++.

For search help,

There are 2 types :

Elementary search help and

Collective search help.

Elementary search help has search field from one other table

Collective search help has search field data from more than one tables.

To create search help, Goto --> se11 --> search help.

Enter the search help name ( Remember it should start with 'Z'. Only SAP defined terms start with other characters). It is another table with the field required. Create the table and enter the required fields and cretae entries as per usual procedure.

Now search help is created(Elementary search help).

The above method is for elementary search help creation.

While creating the fields of the table (through SE11) ,

in the tab 'Fields' (where u enter ur field name, data element, data type ... short description), click the button 'Srch Help' and mention the name of the search help.

For tracing step, use F5 after getting into debugger.

F8 - Direct output.

F7 - returning to previous step when inside a debugger

F5 - trace/step by step debugging.

For any program, you can enter the debugger by typing "/h" in the place where you enter your transaction codes. It switches on the debugger. This is applicable for any screen/standard program too.

To find debugger otherwise,

in SE38,

On menubar Goto Program>Test>Debugging.

s i got it . but they controls are go to the some other system implicit statements , i can't understand what it could done.

for ex) i am creating a simple program using a do while loop statement for 10 times in abap.

i asking to u "whether it work as a "c program " or not?".

in " c" languages the control flow for 10 times . it could easily understood by me and others.

but here i dont know.

2.)one more qs. in below of the debugger window some field names and fields contents are there . i can't understood.

Hi Suresh,

Sorry for the delay in replying.

Yes, the process of looping is same on ABAP and C.

And nobody can understand debugging without practising the ABAP codes. Pls go through the transaction 'ABAPDOCU' for examples and practise coding. Debug your own coding and see whats happning. Thats when u ll be able to get a grip on debugging methods.

The debugger window has terms like tables, fields which show the contents of particular objects you select. It is useful when u want to trace in which step u go wrong.This is to trace the step where your contents are mishandled or misstored.We can check if the field variable gets the value, the internal table has contents, etc. Try to debug your own codes and understand everything before you start debugging standard/others' programs.

i don't know how to pass an internal tables via tables to functional modules . please tell clearly with each step.

am already created one ddic tables ysustab2.i want to pass the internal tables as a ysustab2 type.

i dont know

for ex)

it4 structure ysustab2. ** i dont know how to mention the structure type ysustab2 in interfaces for it4(internal table)*

I am not clear with ur previous post.

But I will try to explain how to pass internal table to a function module.

The internal table will have contents from a database table:

TABLES : zdssp, "DEPARTMENT TABLE

zessp. "EMPLOYEE DETAILS TABLE

DATA : BEGIN OF wi_zsspit OCCURS 0 ,

emp_id LIKE zessp-emp_id,

emp_name LIKE zessp-emp_name,

dept_id LIKE zessp-dept_id,

dept_descr LIKE zdssp-dept_descr,

END OF wi_zsspit.

DATA wt_zsspdept LIKE zdssp OCCURS 0 WITH HEADER LINE.

SELECTION-SCREEN BEGIN OF BLOCK b1 WITH FRAME TITLe text-001.

PARAMETERS : p_deptid LIKE zdssp-dept_id.

SELECTION-SCREEN END OF BLOCK b1.

AT SELECTION-SCREEN ON VALUE-REQUEST FOR p_deptid.

SELECT * FROM zdssp INTO TABLE wt_zsspdept.

IF sy-subrc EQ 0.

CALL FUNCTION 'F4IF_INT_TABLE_VALUE_REQUEST' " FUNCTION CALL

EXPORTING

retfield = 'DEPT_ID'

Now, replace the code with ur field/table names and use write statement as required.

The function module is for getting F4 help.

i was developed a abap coding for these but it depict the unpredictable answer.

coding is shown below

data : in type i value 1,

jn type i value 1.

while in le 5.

while jn le in.

write:/ jn.

compute jn = jn + 1.

endwhile.

write:/.

compute in = in + 1.

endwhile.

Hi, to create the search help for a field for a particular table, you only have to declare a field indexing to table field.

Example,

parameters: p_bukrs like t001-bukrs.
