Smart forms using ZEBRA 170XIII Plus label Printer

Hi gurus,

i have a req. to print the labels with bar code using the ZEBRA 170XIII Plus label Printer. Presently i have the printer as LOCL printer in my pc and i could print text or documents from windows applications. But,when i issue a print from the SAP, SAPLPD shows "so and so pages printed" but nothin is printed by the ZEBRA printer.

I have tried all loading the ZEBRA printer in SPAD etc what is mentioned in the SPAD documention and i feel i missed some imp steps.

Have anyone of you had this problem.Any help is greatly appreciated and rewarded.

To be precise i need the following information.

1.How to set up the printer , ( in order to make it talk from SAP ).

2.How to print the label with Bar code from SAP.

Hi Ravi,

I am not sure about this particular Zebra model, but normally Zebra printers use the proprietory printer language ZPL. Zebra offers a software called BarOne for R/3 (or BarOne for mySAP) which is a Windows based application that you can use to create the label (including variables that you will use on the SAP side).

After you are done with the design, you'll have an option to download the ZPL code to your local PC in a so called ITF format which then can be uploaded into a standard text in SAP through transaction SO10. This standard text can be included in an empty shell Smartform; you still will have to define the variables that you used in your label design in your Smartform interface, that's it.

It sounds kind of complicated but it's actually fairly simple.

BarOne is fairly cheap, I think it was about $400 and can be used by an unlimited number of users; I think you can even download a fully functional demo version from <a href="http://www.zebra.com">http://www.zebra.com</a>.

The printer driver in SAP should be "generic" because the uploaded SO10 standard text already represents the ZPL code meaning that the printer commands from the SSF only have to be passed through without any driver formatting etc. We had a high output application and initially installed the Zebra drivers for the printers in SAP but this caused problems with the spooler until we switched to generic drivers.

Hi Guenther,

Thanks for the help , but the SMARTFORMS support direct barcode printing from SAP from 620 onwards. The SAP can encode the label into ZPL printer commands and send it to printer.( as per the ZEBRA website ).bcoz of which our client does want not have a ZEBRA BAR ONE sofware.

Do you how to set up the print drivers and controls or wats the basic settings to be done before printing.

I use the printer driver ZLZEBU2 to print on Zebra from Smart Forms.
