I would like to check it is there a way to set an additional flag in vbak table,let say can we add a additional field inside vbak table and allow me to have additional field to set a flag?

by using APPEND STRUCTURE button appears on the DISPLAY of that table ,you can add the new field. but you have to make sure first,that how you are going to populate values for that field for all the sales orders.
to do this,either you have to add the field in VA01/VA02 screens by using SCREEN EXIT or think of how to populate values to that field.
yes u can add new field to the table VBAK by append structure method.U need to add this field in the va01 tcode.

goto tcode va01->in second screen in the menu bar click on GOTO->HEADER->ADDITIONAL DATA A/ADDITIONAL DATA B.Here u can add ur ZFIELD,which u added to VBAK table.But to add ur field u require the access key.
