hi gurus,
Can somebody tell me how Unicode is affected in Standard programs or Standard Transactions.
we are now in 46C. moving to ECC unicode system. so need to find out if any changes we need to do in std programs or transactions to make Unicode active or avoid unicode problem.
Suggestion please.

Making your custom developments (over the years) Unicode compaitable when moving from a Non-Unicode system to a Unicode enabled one is a project in itself!
Unless SAP has provided some "magic" standard program to convert all customer developments compatible to Unicode, you'll find most of your old programs will short dump when you check the "Unicode Active" checkbox in the program attributes. This is the case if you want to take the advantage of a Unicode system...otherwise if you leave them alone ("Unicode Active" checkbox = Space) then they'll still function normally (in most cases!) but then the point of migrating to an Unicode environment is lost! Are you migrating only because new developments can take advantage of an Unicode system...what about the old developments on which lot of business processes depend on for da-to-day activities.

Hi Souguta and Anji,
Thanks for your replies.
Now we are worried about Transactions and Standar programs used in Unicode systems.
Just Want to confirm, does standard transactions used in Non-unicode system behaves the same way in Unicode system. or we need to activate something in standard programs/Transactions/Customizing used to match unicode functionalities.
Please suggest me in Techinical part and Functional part.
I want to know the possibilities of it. I believe just Checking UCFlag in std programs will do. is there anything else i need to active in transactions/Customizings/programs etc.
I will surely reward points

Hi Ambi,
For standard programs and transactions it should be fine...I dont see any issues for non-Unicode compatibility. I think your Basis team has to make some changes which will be as per direction of SAP...similar to applying notes etc.
For custom developments (which is the biggest worry in case of an Unicode upgrade) you can use transactions UCCHECK and SAMT...these standard procedures will help you to achieve the Unicode compatibility in the long run. Don't forget to reward points!

Hi Sougata,
That's great. I've some problems in Unicode printing. I need to use the characters in Latin Extend Additional Unicode script. I've tried many ways to solve this problem ie. changing device type which support cascading fonts, adding new true type fonts to SAP system, .... But I just able to print out ABAP list, it doesn't work for Smartforms and SAP script. Could you please help me to solve this problem or give me your email for easier contact.
Thank you very much.
Best regards,
