READ_TEXT function module

Have a question about READ_TEXT function module. Its returns special characters with <(>&<)>, instead of &. IS there any alternative solution for this, other than deleting all occurances of <(> and <)>. Please let me know if anybody has come across this..

If u remove the & , it will be read as a variable in scripts.
