Hi All,
I am tryin to create a pgm which the user will execute. The pgm requires reading a file from the server. The file does not exist in 'usr/sap/...'
instead it exists in a path like '100.1.2.3/C$/file.txt'. But basis ppl arnd me still say that it is a file in the server. Is it not that all server files exist in usr/sap/....? Should i use an Open dataset or GUI upload for this? The concept is quite not clear to me. Can someone explain?
Sorry if m query sounds a bit confusing.

Hi Gita,
Seems like your file could be a application server file. and for application server file you generally use OPEN DATASET as you said. I am not sure on what you mean with the path that is specified.
Thanks,
Naveen

Hi,
If you can't determine yourself if your local file is on a presentation (PC) server or an Application server, do you really think someone on SCN can?
If you can access it via transaction al11, then it is on the SAP application server.
cheers

Hi Paul,
There lies the problem. Its not available in AL11. All i wanted to know was will all the App server files be mandatorily accessible via AL11 or are there exceptions?
Thanks.

Yes. They have to be present in AL11 for you to access using query OPEN DATASET.
