Hi All,

How do the system calculates the float in PS and what do u mean total floats and free floats?

Floats are calculated with respect to a activity's early start & finish, and latest start & finish dates. And these are an output of scheduling. Fwd Sch will give the early dates and Bwd Sch will give the latest dates.

Now the difference between early start and latest start or early finish and latest finish of the same activity is the Total Float, and difference between early finish of an activity and early start of its succeeding activity is the Free float. Consuming of total float by delaying an activity will consume the total float of all the associated activities in the arm. Free float is the amount of delay that can be tolerated by a preceeding activity without affecting the early start of succeeding activity.
