Printing issue Smartform on Dot Matrix printer

Hi All

We are printing an output on a dot matrix printer .

We are facing issues with the alignment of the prints .

We have created a page format of the same size that was being used on the printer and assigned it to device type for printer (model OKI ML 5590 dot matrix printer).

So as you can see in the images .. on page1  its coming top then on next its coming in middle of page then in 3rd its moving further down.

In Smartform I have specified the dimensions leaving upper margin , so my expectations are it should always start with specified point but it seems to be random .

I believe it has nothing to do with Smartform. You have to work on printer setting. Be in touch with your IT guy. He may help you.

The page size of the printer is not the same as A4.  You also need to check the printers Skip-Over-Perforation setting since this can lose upto 1 inch per page if this is set as the printer will not print upto and on the performation.

The width of the paper also needs to be defined since you also lose about .5 inch when you remove the sprocket holes from the printer.

which device type are you using for your OKI printer?

If you define a new page format, you typically also need to define a corresponding "spooler format" for the device type, this format basically contains printer commands sent at the start of the print job to set the proper page length. For a line printer with continuous forms it is essential that those commands (found in action "printer initialization" of a format, e.g. DINA4, when editing device types in transaction SPAD) set a page length (typically measured in lines, so setting Lines-per-inch value is also essential) which matches exactly the size of the continuous forms. In your example above, the effective page length of the printer is larger than the continuous form length, so the paper advances too far...

Check SAP note 3102 which explains the basic process.
