Hi

SINGAPORE, 1997 NOV 10 (NB) -- By Joel D. Pinaroc, Metropolitan Computer Times. Chain management applications provider SAP says that the newest version of the best-selling R/3 rapid applications software, the R/3 version 4.0, is set for release next year, while a new methodology for faster deployment of client/server systems, the Accelerated SAP (ASAP), will be available before year-end.

Newsbytes notes that ASAP has been completely rolled out in the US while its release in Europe is set by end-1997.

Les Hayman, president and CEO of SAP South Asia, said that the company is in the process of testing R/3 version 4.0, the new rapid applications product, to be made available sometime next year. The latest version is expected to provide key logistics, financial functions, and a new array of improved value-chain management for corporate users.

Although Hayman did not give any specific date of the release, he said current R/3 users need not worry once R/3 version 4.0 hits the market, because migration to the new version would be easy.

"The new version of our leading client/server system is due by middle of next year. The R/3 version 4.0 will continue SAP's market leadership and strength in chain management technology," Hayman declared.

ASAP, on the other hand, is SAP's approach for rapid and efficient implementation of the R/3 enterprise business software. The new methodology is being positioned as a more cost-effective deployment tool for R/3 implementations. With ASAP, R/3 users are expected to have better return on information and investment.

SAP has conceived, designed, and tested ASAP at customer sites to meet the objective of faster returns for companies implementing R/3. A team of fifteen ASAP consultants is now reportedly undertaking pilot projects for ASAP in the South Asian region.

In a technical presentation during SAP's annual user's conference, Sapphire '97, Martin Breuer, vice-president for marketing and regional support SAP South Asia Pacific, explained that ASAP is the first branded implementation solution to be developed and directly supported by SAP.

The methodology is said to encompass a roadmap and a set of tools (such as questionnaires, templates and forms) as well as a range of service support and training offerings.

"The methodology provides customers with a choice of proven accelerators most appropriate for R/3 implementation, applying as many or as few as the customer chooses. As a result, ASAP can tailor each R/3 implementation to individual business, industry and timing requirements," Breuer said.

"The key to ASAP is flexibility. SAP consultants apply methodologies and tools to meet a customer's specific scope, taking into consideration each organization's needs and internal resources," Breuer added.
