What are parameter transactions ?

How can i know whether a given transaction is a parameter transaction or not?

The first line of the SAP help page I referred to reads:

> Parameter transactions allow you to preassign values to fields on the initial screen of a transaction.

Quite a few customizing transactions are parameter transactions based on SM30 with the field for table/view predefined. This allows you to give rights to change only one table through SM30 without presenting SM30 itself, with its selection screen.
