open dataset does not return proper subrc?

OPEN DATASET lc_filename FOR OUTPUT IN TEXT MODE ENCODING DEFAULT.

In this statement, lc_filename has the value C:\temp\mainfilereport_20090724163319.TXT

I expect this to fail.

But the subrc is being returned as ZERO.

Please advise what is wrong with this statement..

Did you check SAP notes? Maybe the OS creates the file in DIR_HOME directory when the path is invalid. Could you check in AL11? You may also add "MESSAGE msg" to the "OPEN DATASET", maybe you'll get more information.
