Hi,
Movement types define the material & stock movements during purchases, sales & production.
For Eg: 101 stands for Good receipt from a Purchase Order, which signifies the stock of that material has increased.
601 stands for goods issue in sales process.

Hi,
normally material transaction will be handled only through movement types.
it will be based on whether the material is getting received or issued from concern storage location.
the field BWART in MSEG will be updated whenever the standard transaction are crried out.
based on movement types one can tell material is getting received or getting issued in to the plant or from the plant.

To give you an example
In a recent program I made I was reducing and increasing the stock based on the movement type.
A simplistic algorithm would be
case x_bwart.
when '101'
call method zcl_mm_ols_001->reduce_stock.
when others.
call method zcl_mm_ols_001->increase_stock.
endcase.
