I was just wondering if anyone new if the 'Mini SAP' installation which comes free with the objects book requires a connection to and existing SAP system or if it is a standalone application. I.e could i run it on my home PC without any external connection.

The Mini SAP is a standalone system. Only Basis is included. You don't have any buissines application like SD, MM, FI or CO in it. But you can connect to other SAP Systems with RFC.

MiniSAP 6.10 & 6.20 system is a SAP server, which would run on your PC and you can logon/connect with SAPGUI (also installed in your PC) and you can develop SAP programs and do almost the same thing as you would do in case of normal SAP system.

In case of MiniWAS 6.30 & 6.40 only the Java engine delivered so you cannot test ABAP programs.

As long as you do a PURE ABAP coding without accessing any tables that are not there in MiniSAP .. then you're OK.

so would i not be able to code a select statement form say the EKKO table and syntax check it ok. Also can i create Z tables within MiniSAP?

Yes, you can create Z tables in minisap.

Although the R/3 module tables are not available in Minisap, you have the full Flight training "module", where you can get familiar with ABAP concepts...eg you want to learn the concept of persistent class: you create a class/program for table SFLIGHT and you can see how it works...later in your R/3 system you can do the same for other table like EKKO if you like.

In minisap you can play around freely...

Peter, I found the " http://www.geocities.com/incho_master/MiniWAS.htm " very useful, thanks a million. Quick question, why is it that you have to extend your license? Also, when you install miniSAP WAS 6.10, you get a trial copy of MS SQL, how do I see how much space of that trial copy I am using and how do I make the maximum size larger if possible? Please advise..

Your welcome.

> is it that you have to extend your license?

Because it's a trial version and valid for 90 days, so you have to refresh it after every 90 days. Fortunately it's free.

No. It's coming with SAPDB database.

You can enlarge the dafault DB with adding an extra datafile. If it's full you cannot extend it. I think the available space is more than enough, since in Minisap you don't generate too much transactional data, mainly repository objects, which don't need as much space as transactional data.

Hope helps.

I found myself a little confused with the wording of Incho's reply about being able to enlarge but not extend the miniSAP database. Though I think I get what was meant, others might not so I thought I'd post a follow-up.

With respect to the MBS 4.6D minisap system, this database utilises MSDE. MSDE is essentially Microsoft SQL Server with various constraints, most notably that the database size may not exceed 2GB. When you install MBS, you'll find the database is already at about 1.8GB. To my knowledge, there is little that can be done about that.

The later minisap systems that include the ABAP engine are WA1 (Web Application Server 6.10) and BSP (WAS 6.20). Both of these use SAP DB rather than MSDE.

The SAP DB databases can be made bigger as required by adding additional data volumes. To do this, you'll need to install the SAP DB database manager, as outlined in Incho's useful page, mentioned elsewhere in this topic. Once installed, connect to the SAP DB database, go to the configuration section, click on volumes and then add a new volume. Fairly straight forward to understand once you're there.

BTW, I love step 114.

Scott and Incho, you are both great help. I was confused on what my WAS 6.10 MINISAP version came with, either MSDE(MS SQL server) or SAP DB, when I installed MINISAP WAS 6.10 an icon on my systray started showing up to start or stop the SQL service on windows XP, perhaps that threw me for a loop thinking it came with MS SQL and not SAP DB, either way I'll try to extend the DB to make sure it does come with SAP DB.

Thank you all

You can order MiniWAS 6.10 / 6.20 (ABAP Stack) from here

http://www.sap.com/company/shop/

-> SAP Knowledge Shop

-> General -> SAP NetWeaver -> WAS

WAS 6.30 and 6.40 is also available, but they contain only the Java stack.

I have installed MINISAP 4.6D and not WAS 6.10 as I had stated in my previous post. Whenever I try to edit any of the repository objects that come with it, such as the examples noted in the book ABAP OBJECTS, I get a message telling me I can not change them. Anybody know why/how may I change these? I've created a new development class and copied them in order to edit them, this has been the only work around.

Any ideas or comments would be greatly appreciated.

Hello,

you have to copy the object to begin with a Y or Z. Than you can edit it.

This mini-sap doesn't sound too impressive nor useful. Anyone out there using it? What do you think about it?

Kenneth,

It depends on what you are looking for. MINISAP targets Basis and ABAP individuals, if you are a functional consultant trying to get your hands on some IMG(Implementation Guide for R/3 Customizing) then this is not for you. I recommend you buy one of the books from SAP-PRESS if you are interested in ABAP or the technical side of R/3, such as the the ABAP objects book or ABAP objects references, they each come with MINISAP, 4.6D and WAS 610 respectively.

Does anybody know how long does it take for SAP to facilitate me a license extension for MINISAP 4.6D? I've requested for SAP to extend my license because its been already 30 days since I installed it, I still have not receieved it from them.. its been a week since I requested it .. I thought I'd ask here before I request it again through the online form, perhaps there's a different way to request it? Any advise?

The e-mail with the license key extension usually takes no more than 10 minutes to arrive.

Is it possible you entered the wrong e-mail address? Backing up a step, did you use this URL to request it?

I'm pretty sure I entered the email address correctly. Perhaps the yahoo email service was down at that time. I'll request it again, hopefully I'll get it this time, do you think I should be ok requesting it again?

I also did you the link below..

Thanks in advanced,

Francisco

I have good news! I got my license finally after requesting it for the second time. I did come across a problem while installing it. I had to first set the environment for db connect to MBS. I thought I'd post something that help me fix that:

Hallo

Meine Mini SAP Lizenz ist abgelaufen und ich habe bei SAP eine

neue bezogen. Nun funktioniert das Installieren der Lizenz nicht.

saplicense -install gibt mir folgenden Fehler zrück

      • SAPLICENSE (Release 46D) ERROR ***

ERROR: Can not set DbSl trace function

DETAILS: DbSlControl(DBSL_CMD_IMP_FUNS_SET)

failed with return code 20

RC-INFO: error loading dynamic

db-library - check

environment for:

dbms_type =

(e.g. /usr/sap/SID/SYS/exe/run)

Ich habe versucht die angegebenen Systemvariablen zu setzen:

dbms_type = MSSQL

DIR_LIBRARY = C:ProgrammeMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQLBinn

Wie erwartet funktioniert es natürlich nicht. Kann jemand helfen?

Mein System: Windows 2000 SP4 German, SAP-Mini 4.6D, MS SQL

8.00.194.

Danke mal im voraus

Beat

hi,

gleiches problem hatte ich gestern auch. folgender weg liefert die

lösung:

- starte das mbs system

- starte die datei dbenv.cmd im mbs-verzeichnes (z.b. c:mbs)

- starte dann saplicense -install

nun müßten die abfragen kommen

grüße

olaf

I hope your german is good, mine is non-existant and I was able to pull it off.

Good luck everyone,

Francisco

I thought I'd post this here too since this thread is related to MINISAP what does it do, installation problems, etc, etc...

Ever installed MINISAP and your OBJECT list does not show up? All you get is a white box? In order to fix this here's a patch for the SAP GUI box:

--- 8< ---

Why is my object list selection window blank, when im supposed to

have two pulldown boxes

--- 8< ---

I had the same issue under WinXP Pro and posted to a SAP NNTP-NG.

Someone suggested to goto

www.sap-press.de/katalog/buecher/titel/gp/titelID-310

where you may download the GUI-patches für MiniSAP 4.6 und 6.10

which are supposed to fix this.

Didn't try that yet though, but it's sure worth a go.

Cheers,

Francisco

When I get to the part where I need to use a global class and I double click on the class name it says the class doesn't exit. How do I get the global classes?

You can also read this weblog reagarding the MiniWAS which I find to be a lot more useful than just the Mini SAP that came with the ABAP objects book.
