After upgrading the system from 46c to ECC, the material column in ME21n transaction is missing where as we can see it in the 46c version.
Can you please suggest what could be the reason and what needs to be done to get the column on to the screen.

Hi,
1) Go to the screen (through Screen Painter) in which this column should be and check is this column really there.
2) if it's there maybe it just overlap with some other field. Just find there and try to stretch it.
3) if it's there and you still don't see it, get someone with access SAP_ALL and go to this transaction once again. Go to Table control variant menu (Right upper conner) and go to Administration. After that delete variant and activate it again. Save,Save document. Check if this field appears.
4) if it's not in Screen Painter then check for OSS note.
Hope this will help you.

Hi,
The above solution does not work in ECC6.0. The solution is to adjust the configuration - IMG - Materials Management->Purchasing->Purchase Order->Define Screen Layout at Document Level..
Now the trick is to make sure you set the Material Field (in the Enjoy Fields) section to "Opt Entry" - but make sure you set it for ME21N, AKTH and NBF. I found that the purchase order transaction ME21N combines the settings from these three variants. Since NBF is the default screen variant (if no other is assigned to the order type you're using), the settings from NBF will over-ride those against ME21N. (check any custom variants you are using also). The behaviour is different from previous versions of SAP (4.6c in our case)
Table control administration is limited in ME21N/ME22N - it is only possible to move columns to the far right if you want to hide them. There is a note about that somewhere.
