Is LSMW used mainly for master data transfer? if yes, what can b the reason for this?
About BDC, is it used both for master data, transaction data,right?

HI,
The LSMW is not just for master data, it can be used for any transactions, mainly used by the functional people which contains the sequence of steps to create the LSMW and can be run when needed.

No, you can use LSMW for any kind of data transfer. BDC is a pre-historic way to getting data into the system, you better use BAPIs or IDocs to do the job.

LSMW and BDC cater for the same purpose with their own set of advantages and limitations
LSMW - no coding knowledge required - Used by Config people where data manipulation need not happen
BDC - need to code, gives oppertunity to do a lot of calculations etc

LSMW = mapping tool (legacy to SAP) for any data
BDC = automatic mass screen input technique for any data

Hi,
The LSM Workbench is an R/3-based tool that supports You when transferring data from non-SAP
systems ("Legacy Systems") to R/3 once or periodically.
The tool supports conversion of data of the legacy system in a convenient way. The data can then be
imported into the R/3 system via batch input, direct input, BAPIs or IDocs.
Furthermore, the LSM Workbench provides a recording function that allows to generate a "data
migration object" in an entry or change transaction.
In LSMW have source and target field mapping. so that data should not be lost.
